Pregnancy

Extreme tiredness at ten weeks, is that part if being pregnant at over 40

I have not moved off the sofa today and have been so lazy this summer. Is this what it feels like to be expecting at post 40.

How on earth am I going to cope with a minimum 12 hour working day from next week?

I think it's part of being pregnant no matter what age you are! Fortunately the tiredness isn't as bad (or at least wasn't for me) in the 2nd & 3rd trimester. When I was 8-12 weeks I was going to bed straight after putting dd to bed (7pm)and sleeping 12 hours!

This is my fifth pregnancy and with all the others I have kept going as normal. I have not been getting up until past 8am every day this week, today it was gone 9am. Monday morning I need to be up at 5am. Shock

We may need to get some extra help at home.

I'm 24 weeks and aged 40 and despite being in my second trimester where I am supposed to have energy I am still utterly shattered! I've had the summer off (I'm a teacher) and this has meant I could sleep whenever I needed to mostly. Thank goodness because every afternoon I have felt exhausted and needed a nap.

Admittedly I am not as tired as I was in weeks 7 - 16 but then I'm not at work either. I think my age must have something to do with this exhaustion and I am not looking forward to the total exhaustion returning and going back to work.

I am also a teacher, luckily am in quite a senior position so not on my feet all day.

It is not just the job though it is running a home, looking after all the children and animals, currently during term time I am on the go from 5am until around 11pm. I am just it going to manage it.

Don't think it's your age! I was like this at age 29. It did lift during the second tri and also didn't feel too bad during the third.

If you can do get some help at home though. With four DCs and the longer darkness of the winter months you'll really appreciate it!

I don't think it matters what age you are, pregnancy is diffferent for everyone. I'm 36, pregnant with first baby and in the first trimester people were telling me I was so lucky to not have sickness but MY GOD the tiredness was awful!!
It did get better for me after 12 weeks and must say at 20 weeks I now feel great! So hang in there! Also I know someone who is in late teens who is suffering so badly with pregnancy so I really really don't think age has anything to do with it.

Congrats btw Flowers

Thanks, I hate not being able to pull my weight at home. The children are being great at pitching in but that will not be as easy when they return to school.

I am going to have to swallow my pride and get some paid help I think,

I was ridiculously tired until about 14 weeks with DD2 and I was 22 at the time and I was the same with DS2 last year. I think it's just early pregnancy that wipes you out no matter how old you are.

Maybe I have forgotten how tired I was with the others, although DH thinks I am finding this pregnancy harder.

Congratulations!
I don't think it's anything to do with age, I'm 29 & between 7-16 weeks pretty much all I could do was go to work, come home & go to bed. I then needed the whole weekend in bed to get over the exhausting regime of the week.
This is my first & I have no idea how anyone manages when they already have kids, you're all amazing superheroes as far as I'm concerned.

Definitely not your age. I was 32 in my first pg and went to bed at 6pm every night for the first 4 months. Similarly knackered now...

In my case it was not the age, the teaching or the pregnancy but the GTP and the commute.

Do get some paid help.

no its not your age - my pregnancy at 38 was worse the this one at 41 in terms of tiredness but I was mildly iron deficient. This time I started prescription iron at my request at 12 weeks.
This time its all about the spd and massive bump!

Right I have organised more help in the home so that I get an extra hour in bed in the morning rather than getting up to do the housework. That means from Monday I do not have to get up until 6am!
