Third trimester exhaustion

Am 31 weeks with DC2, and have had to give in and take the day off work because I'm just so tired. Have spent the day lying in bed and am only now starting to feel marginally better! It's so frustrating as I'm normally really active and like to get stuff done.

My job involves sitting all day long, but involves a lot of mental effort and I'm struggling to get anything useful done. A lot of the time I'm so tired that I can't really think straight! Am not that short of sleep either - DH is doing a lot of looking after DC1 (who is 2) while I lie in, and I can't remember the last time I stayed up past 10pm. Have stupidly agreed to work to 37 weeks, but I'm wondering about changing that.

Iron levels are fine, though I'm borderline for GD (raised sugar levels but still under the thresholds for diagnosis). Midwife says it's just one of those things you have to put up with when pregnant.

Anyone else suffering?

Me too, I'm constantly tired an like you in bed before 10pm (usually about 8.30pm lol) I have a mentally tiring job too and find it uncomfy sitting down all day an struggle concentrating. This is my 1st DC so don't have a little one to run around after when I get home. I'm lucky enough to be finishing work next Friday as Iv got to use my 30 days holiday before my mat leave starts so ill have 6weeks to just sleep Grin just been to see the midwife an she said that all my iron levels etc are really good it's just tiredness that comes with the 3rd trimester.

Sorry you're feeling the same jen, but it's good to hear I'm not alone :) Am jealous of your 6 weeks of sleeping!

FWIW, I felt similar in my first pregnancy and it all just disappeared once DD was born.

Its not just iron levels that can exhaust you - low vit d levels or zinc levels can totally wipe you out. I bet you're not sleepign well at night either.

I sympathise - am 32 weeks and have been sleeping badly. I've actually found doing some exercise earlier in the day (no one is saying an aerobics class - but some pregnancy yoga or pilates or a gentle walk) and then going to bed later helps. Its just waking up before 5 every morning I have an issue with.

dinky 5? what a lovely lie-in Wink. have been waking during the night too, mostly through trying to get comfy / needing a wee / needing gaviscon / being pushed out of bed by DD. considering a stint on the sofa in case it helps...

Don't worry Shelley - I have plenty of those kinds of nights too.

dinky you're probably right about not sleeping well and possible other causes. But I get brushed off by the midwives with 'just one of those things'!

shelley it's hard enough with just a 2yo and being able to escape to work! Can't imagine being a sahm with 2 to run after

well javabean one started school in sept so its only one at home really so not that bad (until july - eek). but have to say whilst the idea of staying at home and having no childcare costs was appealing, in lots of ways working was a lot easier and less tiring - though not sure how that works. and you get paid too Smile.

i admire those that work and have DCs to juggle - logistically i just dont know how i would do it!

I'm knackered too!! I'm 29+3 weeks and feel shattered. The thought of another 10+ weeks of this makes me want to cry. I'm putting it down to being 39. I felt great with DC1 at 18, DC2 at 34 was different because I was in hospital for most of it, but still don't remember feeling this exhausted. Now I feel shattered within 5 minutes of getting up.

I may feel 20 in my head, but my body feels lie it's 90!!

Also knackered - am 27 weeks and it's hit me this week. Have a 5 and 2 year old, who aren't helping, but I don't remember feeling this shattered this early on in either of my last pregnancies.

It comes and goes for me. I'm nearly 35w and some days I'm fine and energetic, and other days I'm so tired I just want to sleep all day (but if I have a nap it doesn't really seem to make me less tired).

Hang in there!

Sorry to hear that others are in the same boat, but it's reassuring that I'm not the only one! It's hard to adjust to needing so much rest, but after a day off doing nothing I'm feeling a lot better.
