Hello everyone,

I am new on here but have heard of mumsnet before, it's always coming up on google searches with some really interesting articles and threads.

A couple of days ago I found out I am pregnant, and am still in a state of surprise, not really sunk in that it's real, I keep going through stages of excitement, nerves and feeling very anxious about it all but am so happy, I can't believe I have a little sesame seed in there!!! it feels surreal!

I'm feeling really nervous about my first trimester and started instantly eating loads of broccoli lol!

Has anyone got any tips on how to relax during the 1st trimester? I am dreaming of the day I can have my scan and check that the little bump developing is all good and okay but I think my nerves and anxieties are predominant at the moment and just want to enjoy the excitement of it all

Also I have a hair appointment tomorrow and was unsure if I should be dying my hair this early on? is it safe to do so or should I avoid?

Thanks everyone!

Eat now while you can! In a few weeks you'll be puking up everything you eat and be starving at the same time. I'm 8 weeks and living on plain Pringles, ginger biscuits and innocent smoothies, so stock up cup boards with them! All this puking has made me forget I have a bean in me sometimes as I just feel ill :(

Congratulations :) try not to worry too much (although I couldn't stop myself either) read up of your curious, plan your antenatal classes, chat with other mummys to be and enjoy!
I didn't have my hair dyed until after the first trimester- I had a quick check on google and that seemed to be recommended.
Good luck

Congratulations!! Just to say as well, that everyone's pregnancy is different, I am 37 weeks and haven't thrown up once (not bragging just don't want you worrying about lack of symptoms!) just some very mild nausea in 2nd trimester.

My advice would be to just try and get on with normal life as best you can (hard I know). Im my experience 1st trimester was the most difficult, comic exhaustion and waiting for those scans! I'd say the further along you get the easier it is, and it will go quicker if you just carry on with life as normal.

Congratulations Littlepeanutbump!

It's a bizarre feeling isn't it?!

I guess you must be due in October sometime, right? If you have a look in the antenatal clubs section you'll find a 'Due in October' thread with lots of other ladies due about the same time as you. I'm in the September club and have found it to be a wonderful source of info and support.

Congratulations! I had my hair highlighted in the first trimester - my hairdresser said she would recommend this over a full dye job as the dye barely touches the scalp. Most of what I've found online seems to support this, but check in with your hairdresser if you're worried.

Congratulations!

I dyed my hair at 7 weeks, I had to as I had a wedding to go to. Have done so two more times, and will again next week, needs must!

I think the caution comes more from them not being absolutely able to say it's safe, rather than it being harmful.

Am 31 weeks, hoping she doesn't come out with a dip dye do Wink

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your replies, congratulations and advice :) I today had lowlights and really happy with them :-)

It's really nice to hear everyones stories or how people are getting on in their pregnancies as it all seems so different for each of us, I guess that's the nature of creating the little ones!

I am writing today with much more concern though as I had some blood whilst wiping after a dash to the toilet today, I massively panicked!!! It was red/ brownish and looked like the start of a period, I am absolutely terrified of miscarrying :(

I have seeked medical attention and been told it is simply to early to know, I am in the very early stages and must just wait and see what happens.

Feeling confused and scared :(

littlepeanutbump don't panic! That's also quite common. I had a bit of a blood quite a few times during the first couple of months and all is absolutely fine so far (am 14+1). Keep an eye on it and if it gets heavier or you experience pain with it then call the dr again (although that also doesn't necessarily mean anything's wrong). Good luck.

LouiseD29 thank you so much for your reply, there are
So many different comments surrounding vaginal bleeding at various stages of pregnancy, I am hoping so much that it's just spotting, but when I first saw it just panicked and thought the worst, I don't have a midwife yet and we are going on holiday so I have an appointment when returning home but am very nervous about it all, I have tested up this morning and I'm trying to reenergise my breasts feel lest tender the last couple of days also, I am reading similar experiences during 1st trimester to try and put my mind at rest, it's all just so new and I just want little peanut to be ok, I will speak to my GP tomorrow
and see if I can have an appointment before we leave for
Holiday for some more information and to ask any questions
and for some support, has anyone else had vaginal bleeding throughout pregnancy? Thanks again Louise :)

1st pg, had some bleeding, got heavier then accompanied by severe cramps at 10wks, ended in mc.
2nd pg, I had spotting in 1st trimester, then major bleeding at 14 weeks (this was 5 days after our first scan!) - all I could think was 'I'm going to lose the baby again'. DD is now snoring away in her carrycot - born nearly 2 weeks ago Smile.

So, bleeding does not automatically equal mc. In fact, I had more bleeding when pregnant with DD and the consultant at the EPC said that sometimes they can't find out the cause, but they checked the baby out and it was all fine. If you do experience pain or just want reassurance try and get referred to your local EPC - we were told not to hesitate to contact them if we were worried about anything after the first referral.

Hi everyone :)

Sorry for the belated update, I just wanted to log back in and let you all know that baby bump is good and well and I am now at 24 weeks, due in early October! :-)

I found my first trimester quite scary and anxious, after spotting and then travelling abroad not knowing if everything was ok, we made it to our first scan at 12 weeks and were delighted to see our little one for the first time.

We have now had our second scan and have decided to keep the gender a surprise, bump is getting very big now and we feel so lucky to have our bump with us, he/ she is a little wriggler.

Wanted to come back and thank everyone for sharing their experiences and comments and for the reassurance back in February.
