I get asked that a lot and I always reply "what ever you want though a t-shirt is a bad idea... and also most women once they get in pool actually take everything off... they're far enough in labour not to give a toss at that point".... you know what ... I'm always- or just about - proven right Wink

I wore a tankini top and no knickers.. I thought I would be soooo embarassed but strangely enough I wasn't. I asked dh afterwards how he felt about his dw walking around with no knickers on and he said it never crossed his mind..! LOL..!!!

Suppose when you are in the throws of labour you don;'t give two hoots..!

But I had to get out once at 10 cms (due to reduced contractions) and mw and dh actually helped me into a nightie to allow me to birth in it.Must admit I am glad as i still wanted a bit of dignity esp as the room was like picadilly train station during rush hour..!! [grn].

Good luck and chill. You state of undress will be the least of your problems.!

I thought I wore a pull on bra-top thingy but must have taken it off when I got in the pool as I don't see it in the pics.

Jumped in naked as well, even though not planned to as very shy. When it came to the crunch the water was so soothing it was the only thing I wanted touching me.
(the midwife & dp poured warmer water over my tummy when I had a contraction & it made an amazing difference if your thinking of going for one)

would love a waterbirth next time. Re - warm water over belly in contractions, my doula did this in the shower - when I had a contraction I told her and she and my DH sprayed REALLY hot shower attachments (1 on tum, 1 on back) and it was amazingly effective - heat blocked out the pain, it was gr8. (Apart from the 1 time when my DH put cold water by mistake and he got sworn at big time!! Grin) It was so good, didn't need any other pain relief.

I wasn't sure the birthing pool would be available for my second so I didn't think about what to wear. As it turns out I did get my water birth and went naked, too busy having contractions to give it a thought tbh! Best thing I did and would definitely have a water birth again, best natural pain relief and I didn't need anything else! DD didn't seem to mind arriving that way either x

pupuce are you there? just wondering why a tshirt is a bad idea. i figured a loose one wouldn't be very good cos it would float up around you, but what would be wrong with a normal fitted tshirt, surely it is the same as wearing a vest top?

I wore a vest top and knickers in the pool. Lost the knickers when I got out to be checked at about 8cms, took the top off after but you do forget. Make sure you take your own towels or blanket, they had only thin sheets where I was and I was sooooo cold I was juddering, probably from shock too.

I attended a waterbirth a couple of weeks ago. She was wearing an old t-shirt, but soon got rid of that as she went into the water completely naked. I don't think any of us really noticed that she was naked, just that she gave birth to a beautiful little girl.

i would think a t shirt would make you cold as its just cotton isnt it? a tankini thing is made of that stretchy stuff.

it didnt occur to me to wear anything. i just wanted to get in. like a huge bath.

plus i felt adequately hidden under the water.

I had a water birth with my first and am planning to again with my second (due August). I am very big busted (G cup) and felt more comfortable with them under control wearing one of those vests from Mothercare with a built in support. The water is quite warm enough to go without but I wanted something on top.

My sister wore nothing, she wasn't planning on having her baby in a waterbath but it just happened that way.

She loved it though and she would deffinatly do it again.

I agree with Pupuce that T-shirts are a bad idea really. They tend to make women feel cold because sodden cotten does that. Large ones are too floaty. When you climb out the pool to go to the loo, they tend to drip all over the place. Tanktini tops are probably bestif pallning to wear something. IME, women tend to wear nothing and we have huge bath towels to wrap round when going to the loo which is advisable to do periodically. HTH.

I wore my black support vest from Mothercare. I know the midwife has seen it all before but it made me feel more comfortable/secure/whatever and that's what mattered. Also wore bikini bottoms for the early part as it just felt wrong for me to be without them :o
