hi all

I was shutting my car door yesterday and didn't allow clearance for my bump (stupid I know) anyway the car door sort of bashed and knocked the very front of my belly as it closed. It was literally on the front by my belly button and probably smarted me more than baby! Am I stupid to be having a pregnant hysteria over this? (please feel free to give me a virtual slap if needed) I didn't hit the main part of the bump but since then baby has completely changed position and hasn't been as active as normal, but it is still having a wriggle but I think it must be facing the other way as movement is minimal.

I'm just eating/drinking to see whether that starts off some more movement then ringing my midwife just in case. It's a shame as my old mw had moved on and I've never spoken to my new mw. Feel a bit stupid. But u ladies know what it's like....you over think these things and reach for mums net!

Has anyone bashed their bumps the same or even worse before? Are they cushioned enough in there?

No personal experience but my SIL was involved in a motorway crash when she was 27 weeks pregnant, she had whiplash and a horrendous seatbelt bruise right across her chest and lap. Baby was fine and the paramedics told her the baby was extremely well protected in there.

Go get checked out, I bet it's all ok but you'll never be sure unless you see someone.

would still get checked out

i was forever bump bashing lol, if i needed to squeeze past somewhere i would breathe in to get past but up until the day i gave birth i would 'forget' that no matter how much i breathe in the bump doesn't move lol

I tripped over and landed on my face when I was about that stage. I phoned the MW to come and check me over - she was more than happy to do so. Always better safe than sorry.

I fell over in the bath when I was pregnant with DS and twisted on the way down, whacked the side of my bump off the side of the bath, my shoulder, arm, and hip off the bottom of the bath. Made a lovely tidal wave and flooded the place too.

I went in to get checked out and they assured me baby was very well protected, amniotic fluid is a great shock absorber plus they're behind your abdominal wall which cushions things too, but that they do prefer to check the baby over just to be safe. Give the maternity unit a ring and explain that you're worried and you're coming in to be checked.

They are very well protected - DS has been using my belly for impromptu trampolining sessions Hmm and all is still well. However, I think you should get checked out for any form of reduced movement, whether after a bash to the bump or not. Better safe than sorry and the midwife won't think you are wasting time.

Thanks ladies you have detailed some much harder knocks than I took so hopefully all ok. Delivery suite have called me in to have a listen to baby. I can hear the heart beat on my Doppler but my little gymnast is awfully still so am off to see them now.

Obviously the most important thing is to find out baby is ok...although slightly unnerved that delivery suite are doing my checks...might I need to put my fingers in my ears? eeekk I'm not ready to hear all that yet!

Thanks everyone and wish my bubs luck! X

You'd be surprised how quiet delivery suites actually are, you get the odd noise now and then but for the large part they're really peaceful in my experience.

Hope everything is okay, let us know how you get on :)

Hey everyone! Thanks for the messages, luckily all is ok. I felt foolish whilst waiting to be monitored as surrounded by mums not yet in established labour - panting and puffing! Lots of them vomiting too....!

But I was well looked after and the midwives were brilliant! Said I have done exactly the right thing coming in and they basically said same as lifeofkate did. ( good advice kate)

I failed the first criteria monitor session but passed the next 3 sessions.

They were less worried about the knock but more worried about the lack of movement. But baby's heart rate was healthy and strong.

They talked thru how my week at work is and suggested I slow down or reduce hours! I am not in a stressful job and it's office based but they said it...so who am I to argue :-)

It was lovely being sat listening to the womwomwomwom of baby, very relaxing!

Huge reality check being surrounded by women on way into labour!!!!

cbear very quiet delivery suite....other than sudden crying of baby. The ward I got moved to however.....not so much....I wonder what my labouring sound will be !!!!

But was a good reminder at just how awesome and amazing women are!

Glad all OK :)

I took a pretty nasty fall down a snow covered scree slope Blush and felt silly going to AnE. Glad I did as I hadn't been told that being rhesus negative meant I was supposed to for any knocks. They tested me for antibodies and sure enough I was positive so went in the next day for a anti-D injection.
