Hi

Just feeling a bit worried and wonder if anyone can help. I woke up last night in the night suddenly feeling really nauseous - started sweating, got really hot and weak, couldn't walk and got a bit shaky too. I thought I would vomit or something, but didn't and after cooling myself with some cold water, the feeling went away and I went back to sleep. Feel alright this morning just a bit paranoid. I rang the midwife and she didn't seem bothered so thought I'd take a chance and post this. I'm 28 + 2.

Didn't eat anything dodgy either!

Any advice or reassurance? Am I just worrying over nothing?

Maybe you got too hot had a hot flush, I get these quite often, it happended a couple of days ago at yoga and I had to leave the room for ten minutes to cool down.
Getting too hot can make you feel sick, well it makes me feels sick, also gives me a really bad stomach.

Your not worrying over nothing, your pregnant and we are all in the same boat, its tough being pregnant, so dont worry.

Thanks to you both - feeling better already. Just felt so strange and awful when it happened, and the midwife really didn't seem to give a toss! Hopefully that's what it was and I'll keep my fingers crossed. x

I've had exactly the same thing happen to me NewMummy, so don't worry. I hate it. Mostly I get it in the evenings right after brushing my teeth and it is generally accompanied by throwing up too!
Hopefully you won't get it again if it was just getting over hot. xx

Strange how these things seem to strike in the evenings or at night... I wonder why that is!!

You weren't sleeping on your back, were you?

Thanks Hilltop! You never know our babies could be born on the same day!

I'm not sure if I was sleeping on my back at the time G1nger - I might have been - as hard as I try to stay on my sides I often still wake up on my back with a start. Could that have caused something?

It happened to me when I slept on my back. It compresses a major artery I think. Woke feeling sick, panicky and hot.

Sleeping on my left side was the best position but I'd roll. DH used to nudge me a lot.

I also found I had the odd moment when awake when I'd HAVE to get a few layers off NOW. I'd get dizzy and weak and sick but be fine once I'd cooled down.

Thanks ShowOfHands - I'm feeling much better knowing I'm not the only one this has happened to. It's quite scary when these sorts of things happen in the night! I'll have to ask my DH to nudge me in the night if I end up in this position too!

If it continues to happen or you feel unwell generally, push your midwife just to check things out.

I think feeling suddenly nauseous, exhausted, dizzy, hot etc is common in pregnancy and happens for lots of reasons, all explicable. But sometimes it's symptomatic of something else like anaemia and obviously you don't just ignore it in that case.

Thanks - I will keep an eye on things and see what happens. Just had bloods done this week and found out everything is fine on that front - but should it continue I'll definitely push to get checked out. x
