head engaged

Quick question...its my due date today (1st baby) and my midwife thinks baby is gonna be late as head hasnt engaged any further than 4/5 since September! She is also concerned as Im so small baby hasnt room to engage any further. After deciding to let me have a natural birth the option of caesarian is now being discussed again. Anyone any similar experience, or has anyone gone in to labouur with baby one at a similar stage of engagement??

my 1st baby didnt engage AT ALL until i was actually in labour, I wouldnt worry, if your babys 4/5ths engaged thats a good sign.
Why is a c/sec being discussed? this is perfectly normal, not all first babys engage/engage fully

Oh, it's cause I'm really small with size 2 feet. They were worried her head would be too big and it was decided I could "try" deliver mormally unless I went overdue. Thanks though thats good to know that not all first babies fully engage in order for labour to begin. Hopefully it will happen soon, fingers crossed!

ooh dofficult choice though! my aunt is really small too and baby got stuck and they had a job pulling him back out the other way! lol

wouldn't be concerned about the head not being engaged though

I wasnt small but baby was big. Her head kept "popping in and out" of engagement. Have c/section if you wish but dont let them bully you into it if its not what you want. Small women do go on to sucessfully give birth vaginally every day.

I would say(oviously im not a medical proffessional) that if babys head is 4/5ths engaged, that is a pretty good sign that its going to be able to come out vaginally, if its that much engaged, its head is already in your pelvis so the only thing left is for it to pass down the birth canal. i wouldnt worry,rarely do women have babies that are vastly out of proportion to themselves

Consultant seems to be keen for me to try deliver normally. MW just seemed worried about the fact she hadnt engaged any further at this stage and was mentioning C/S again. Personally Im just at the stage where I want this baby out!! How much do the last few weeks drag on!!! Sure it's all worth it though!!

my ds engaged but then he dipped in and out.he was my first..ended up being induced at 15 days over and was all fine.

15 days over!! That seems like a lifetime right now> Glad all was fine though!
