help! I have to sleep sitting up!

26 weeks PG. Can't sleep on front. Get strong pain in abdomen when I lie on my back. Have had both shoulders severely damaged (months and months of physio) so can only lie on one side and only then for half an hour or so. I think I am now reduced to sleeping sitting up. Can anyone suggest a good mattress or pillow for that? I might not need to be exactly upright, but it needs to be about a 45 degree angle upright to make the pains stop.

Has anyone used the inflatable mattress with the hole in the middle for your bump? It's selling at about £100.

I have a Holo inflatable lilo with a hole which cost about 35 quid, maybe you could try one of those? Much cheaper...

Miffster many thanks, will give that a try. If it doesn't work at least I will have a lilo!

I have a giant cushion I got from Ikea that I use to sit up comfortably in bed and to sleep sitting up if need be - I wedge it at an angle with normal pillows.

I had spd as well and enjoyed very much sleeping in the rocking chair.

other than that, yes lots of various sizes and shapes pillows around me, between my legs, under my bump.

Miffster - can you sleep on the holo? I've been eying it for a while, but couldn't work out if the hole would be deep enough to take bump if there wasn't a swimming pool underneath!

Has anyone found a solution to the 'numb-bum' you get from sleeping sitting up?

For the numb bum, I'm trying out putting a duvet underneath me because I think the numbness is caused by the hard-ish mattress. I also have a tendency to slide down the slope during the night and wake up after a few hours with my feet dangling over the end of the bed.

I have ordered a giant wedge pillow and a bed prop frame thing (like you see in hospitals), so I will report back on these (expensive) items. I just can't function without sleep and got to the point where I was so desperate that I paid the money.

I must say I haven't actually tried sleeping on the holo, but I don't see why not, people sleep on inflatable airbeds, don't they? I would cover it with a cotton throw then a sheet folded over a few times,( because is plastic so could be sweaty) and not blow up the head pillow section - use a pile of regular pillows instead. Place bump in dip and you're off. It's a lot cheaper than a mattress with a hole and if it doesn't work out, then you can still use it for massage and swimming.

Update: had a massage yesterday on one of these bumpbags, (beanbag with a hole) and it was amazing to lie on my front. It struck me as having more potential long-term household use than an inflatable mattress... and with a sheet laid over it, could be good for sleeping on?

Got the giant wedge and it is working ok, with thin pillows it puts me at about 45deg angle to the bed. I do get quite bad bum ache, though, from numb bum and the constant weight on my cocyx but at least a little bit of sleep. I think it is a memory form wedge, and it came without a cover.

Thanks but I'll try to get by with what I have (have spent £90 so far on wedges, pillows and back supports). Numb bum eased by putting a very thin pillow plus duvet under it. 11 weeks to go!
