Anemia

Am currently 28 weeks pg and GP has prescribed me Fersaday. Can anyone tell me how long these take to work as I am fed up of feeling so tired and achy! Not sure how long I have been anaemic as only saw GP Monday and he said that my last blood test results showed I was anaemic and that MW should have prescribed me Iron tablets at my last appointment 2 weeks ago. I have been feeling like this for as long as I can remember and haven't felt that 'burst of energy' that you apparently get in your second trimester.

Also am waiting to have a fasting blood test on 19th as my reading for my blood sugar test came back as 7 (MW says this is borderline for GDD)

TIA

HI Veyron
I was also diagnosed with anaemia at 28 weeks. Was prescribed pregaday (Iron+Folate) and it seems to have done the trick. I felt more like myself within a week and it nipped the swollen ankles in the bud too. Hope you feel better soon.

beckie90 - Sorry the Iron Tablets didnt work that well for you, hopefully you will be luckier this time round.

LadyRabbit - I might keep on with the Fersaday for a little while longer, if no improvement after a week or so will go back to the drawing board.

Hi veryron, my midwife also forgot to give me my results, and by the time she had found them i was on holiday and 29 weeks pregnant. When i came back they re-did my bloods and my HB had gone down to 9. Eventually I went to my GP who prescribed Ferrous Fumarate 3 times a day. I also now need vitamin b12 injections monthly and I am convinced this is because my midwife left me aneamic for so long. The iron tablets helped a bit, but the b12 injections have made a huge difference. If you don't start to feel any different after about 10 days of the iron tablets tell your midwife and ask them to repeat the blood tests. Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

Oh no, i really do sympathise veyron and so know what you mean. Washing and then having to blow dry my hair made me feel exhausted and don't get me started on going up and down the stairs! Hang on in there with the tablets, but don't forget you have every right to insist on another blood test to see if your iron levels have gone back up. If they have, great then the tablets are working, but if not the MW and GP need to work out why not and give you something else. In the mean time, try not to over do it - have you got any other kids? Maybe you need to think about asking a friend to help you out for a few days until you feel better? I have booked my two kids into a summer camp this week and today I even dropped my dog off at a doggy day care! It's bliss I am having a me day of relaxing and don't have to worry about entertaining any children or walking the dog!! Really hope you feel better soon.
