Hi all

I'm now 35 weeks and now weigh nearly three and a haf stone more than I did 35 weeks ago!

Is this utterly abnormal? Anyone else gained as much?

Ta!

Nope, ur not the only elephant! I put on somewhere between 3 and 4 stone last time round - didnt weigh myself in the last few weeks as i was too depressed to look!

It all came off in a few months tho so dont panic!

I feel like an elephant if that makes you feel any better! I am only 23 weeks and feel enormous!

Oh this is all reassuring, thank you!

I can't say I'm not enjoying indulging my gigantic appetite.

Loving the news from YummyMummy that it's possible to get rid of it afterwards!

PS YummyMumm -how much came off in the immediate few days after your bubba arrived? I am hoping it's a little more than the weight of your baby?

i was 8st10 before pregnancy - ended up about 11st10 to 12st7 (as i sed, didnt weigh myself rite at the end) and after i weighed in a few days after he was born i was about 10st10, then each morning wen i woke up and weighed myself id drop 2 or 3 lbs until i went straight down to 9st10. where i had to work the last stone off myself but trust me im not one for gym or working out so i didnt try too hard!
i loved those first 2 weeks where i dropped 2 or 3lbs without doing any work! hehe. Must have been all the water retention extra blood etc?

21 weeks and already gained 9 kg, which I think is about 1.5 stone. Don't really have a cute defined bump, more like turning into barrel. YummyMummy you've given me hope!

Love this thread! 29 wks and feeling very elephant-like here... I was a skinny-ish 8 stone 5lb before pregnancy, then at 26 wks my usual midwife was on holiday and the really old school one covering for her insisted on weighing me to discover I was already 10 stone 10 lbs! SO I had gained the entire 'recommended' weight for pregnancy before the end of the 2nd tri. Haven't dared weigh myself since but have munched my way through a whole bag of mini daim bars since yesterday... just praying it comes off with breastfeeding, I have no willpower to control my ludicrous appetite right now. Also praying the dreaded call from the diabetes nurse doesn't come, after my GTT last week...
Good luck all x

I gained about 2.5 stone and was back at pre-birth weight within three weeks ... reckon it was all fluid. Heck, most of it was sitting around my ankles . Don't worry! Eat healthy and watch the stretchmarks !

Im 40 weeks now and too scared to get on the scales. Ive been eating non stop for 9 months.

Last time I was about two and half stones overweight six weeks after the birth. Lost it within a few months.

Try not to worry, enjoy your pregnancy, youve got your whole life ahead of you to be slim!

Just hide the bloody scales!
Ignorance is bliss!

I have also stopped getting on the scales. No good can come of it. Honestly pregnancy is hard enough without being weighed all the time.

And seriously - who has done the research saying you only need to eat extra in the last trimester? Some days I am so hungry I could eat for 5 people. I hate it every time I read the books which say "you only need extra calories in the third trimester and even then you only need an extra 300 calories". Seriously? You are mean to create a whole new person without extra nutrients and calories? I call bullshit. I am sure I need an extra 1000 calories a day at least (or so I will keep telling myself).

Well said emmy
Plus never underestimate the power of breastfeeding for shifting it afterwards. I put on 3 and a half stone with DD, I'd dropped it all in about 3 months without dieting or exercising, just DD being a greedy girl! Although I will probably have to BF LO until he's 5 years old to shift the fat arse I've gained with this pregnancy...

Oh I am loving these replies! Especially the hope of a lot of it dropping off naturally in the first few weeks -surely SOME of it must be placenta, blood, water etc not just lard!!

Off to bin my scales ;)

I am only 11+6 and already look like an elephant! No scales available since I moved thankfully, but I was a tad overweight (11st-ish) before I got pg. I dread to think what I have put on already with this constant eating to combat the nausea.

In my last pg I was at least 2 stone lighter than when I started by this point...but I was VERY ill and ended up in hospital. So I have to look at the pros and cons I suppose, but I look like a very cuddly size 16 at the mo and I hate it! Especially since I also need my eyebrows waxed and a haircut, but have felt to yucky too bother in the last 2 months .

I actually look like a bag lady at the moment. Urgh!

I put on 5 stone with my first. Yes, you read that right. Hiding the scales was not a good idea for me.... However, I had lost 21 pounds of that within the first 7 days, which was great! Lost all but 7lb by the time DS was 6 months. I did BF so maybe that helped.

However when he was 8 months, I started some new PND medication which caused me to gain 2 stone. That didn't help with the depression I can tell you!

Been medication free since Jan, was hoping the 2 stone would drop off, I'm still hoping it will and I'm now three months pregnant.

Luckily they don't sell Krispy Kremes in NZ, so I will not be eating them for breakfast this time.

I do not dare get on the scales but I do look like a baby elephant - am just coming up to 29 weeks. I try not to think about it too much but was walking back from the newsagent this morning and caught a glimpse of myself in a shop window and wanted to cry. It's not the bump that bothers me but the rolls of fat that weren't there before! Keep telling myself that my body is doing something amazing so not to be too hard on it and I shall just have to sort it out at the other end. But still . . . feel quite self-conscious!

I work in a clinic and there is a set of scales for weighing the patients pre-op. I have religeously weighed myself 1st thing every Thursday morning for past 3 years. It's a habit I cannot break and have continued to weigh myself throughout this 2nd pregnancy.

I started at 9st 6lb and last week at 36weeks I weighed 11st 4lbs. I am 1lb heavier at 36wks pregnant this time than I was with my DD1 at 36wks preg.

How sad that I know this!

I remember the last time getting on the scales 4 weeks post birth and being back down to 9st 11lb (I keep a diary). I am hopeful that this time it is much the same.

38 weeks and have put on just under 4 stone - weighed myself yesterday as I got cocky following various people, including the midwife, saying I don't look like I've put onmuch weight on aside from my (fairly normal sized) bump.

I have eaten so much today already, I am despairing of myself.

2 Weetabix
1 digestive biscuit
1 packet of snackajacks
2 cheese and tomato rolls

And this is by 2.30pm and I could eat more! I look and feel bloated and hate my rolls of fat. I have to lose weight when the baby is born, I really hate my body, but I need to eat because of the nausea.

am 40+6 and feel huge now and eating loads still The thing is I know I'm not helping myself but cannot resist to stuff my face. Some of it healthy stuff, but much of it not - can't stop eating crisps and chocolate.

Haven't weighed myself at all this pregnancy but plan to eat healthily for the baby when I'm BFing so that the weight will come off quicker than last time. Well, that's the theory!

Emmyloo "And seriously - who has done the research saying you only need to eat extra in the last trimester?"

I think everyone is different. I'm 32 weeks and have very poor appetite now and find it very hard to eat a full meal(think the baby must be compressing my stomach)plus I have terrible heartburn most of the time.

I put on most of my weight in the second trimester so I guess now the baby is sucking up a bit of that fat to finish growing. I was a bit worried I cant eat enough but my Obs said it's fine and the baby is an effective parasite.

The human body is pretty clever.
