I wonder if I can ask for some advice? When I potty trained ds he was 2.9, and we had a week where we were snowed in at home. As we couldn't go anywhere I decided to bite the bullet and we spent 5 days really focussing on potty training, and for the most part it was very successful.

Now I have dd(2.5) who is showing all the signs of being ready. However life could not be more different. With school runs, work and toddler groups etc there just isn't a clear few days to stay in and focus on the training. Even school holidays are not ideal as I have ds (now 8) needing various things!! He has better things to do than sit around waiting for his sister to wee!

So my question is, what do people do? I've bought her pants, should I just go for it and use those at home but wear pull ups out and about? Skip toddler music (her fave thing) for a week? Just looking for some anecdotes really!

Thank you!

I didn't do the stay at home thing with either of mine as I would have gone crazy. So we just put them in pants and got on with life and carried lots of changes of clothes around with us, plus had a special liner for the car seat - and a potette with lots of liners. And made sure we were always aware of the nearest toilet.

Worked brilliantly with DD (DC1) aged 2.6 with only a couple of accidents (one at home, one out of the house) and all done in a couple of weeks (including night time). Did involve doing a poo on the potty in the middle of Early Learning Centre which wasn't great though - but better than doing it in most other shops!

Didn't work with DS (DC2) aged 3.3 (even though he initiated it) who proceeded to have accidents for months and took probably 4 months just to get it in the day time. He refused to use the potette though (after hearing the crinkly bag noises under him the first time he sat on it) but at least being a boy he could more easily go eg in the hedge in the park. We did put him back in pull-ups if eg we had a long journey, but otherwise stuck with the pants, which was the general advice. Suspect the fact that he didn't get my 100% attention didn't help.

So I'd say go for it, stick with the pants, carry a potty and extra clothes but try not to get too distracted by your DS. It may well work - but it might not!
