Potty training

Dry bed at night

I have a three year old who has really grasped the potty training well. Apart from the occasional accident, has now been out of nappies during the daytime for a while.

My wife and I have now decided to take the plunge and try for dry nights as well, which I guess may be asking a little too much of a three year old. We have been doing this for a couple of weeks and have been successful to a point. Dry nights don't seem to be an issue as we ensure that he uses the potty right before bed and then wake him as gently as possible to use the potty again when my wife and I go to bed. He always uses it and goes back to sleep soundly again very quickly.

The problem we now have is since waking him to use the potty he always seems to wake a few hours later at 3am and then stay awake. We check the bed and it is not wet so we don't really know what the problem is. He certainly does not seem scared or distressed in any way at all.

Have any of you encountered the same issue and if so have you had any success in getting them to sleep right through?

I never woke my kids to have a wee once I started putting them to bed without a nappy. One DD never ever wet the bed, the other one did occasionally, but not often enough to make it worthwile disturbing her sleep.

How long can DS go during the day without needing a wee? I'd suggest not waking him when you go to bed, and seeing how that goes.
