Potty training

PT and changing to a bed

We have recently started potty training with DD (2.2) and she's doing fairly well. She still has a nappy (pull ups) on for naps and bedtimes and I anticipate keeping that on for a while, although she's getting more aware as woke up from her nap this afternoon, saying "I've done a wee". She's still in a cot. Should we be moving her to a bed so she could get up and use the potty if she wanted to?

It seems wrong somehow keeping her in a cot and unable to reach a potty if she's getting more aware and we're encouraging her to use he potty independently at all other times. But I'm scared of the move to a bed as she can be so tricky at bedtimes and with a 3 month old baby, I don't want my nights any more disturbed!

Be interested to see what others say but we had this dilemma too during potty training - in the end it has been a total non issue. DD used to wear a pull up at night - but once or twice she called for us in the early hours to say she needed a wee so it was clear she was ready for night time training. Her pull ups were dry day after day - then she announced she didn't need them any more.
She remains in her cot until we are good and ready. ( we have a non sleeping DC2 so were keen to avoid making bedtime harder!)
We are going to make the change soon but prefer to be tackling one thing at a time.
She is over 3 which I know is probably very old for a cot but she is very very happy in her bed - i know when she was 2.2 she would have been a nightmare to make the transition - especially with a baby in the mix!

I just thought maybe my experience isn't that helpful as she was around three when we potty trained so it might make a difference!

That's interesting - last night DD did the same! Called me at about 10:30 and did a wee and then her pull up was dry for the rest of the night. Might have been a one off, but we'll see how it goes.

thats funny! yes see how it goes if you aren't ready for the bed move just yet. they are pretty adaptable - personally i would rather she calls me for the potty once in a while than tackle the bedtimes going haywire. They are all individuals - DD hasn't had a nighttime accident since ditching the pull ups. It felt like we went at her pace so it was never a drama once we started.

No way will DC2 be in a cot for this long!
good luck.
