Potty training

Dry at night but waking to wee

My son has just turned 3. He's been out of nappies in the day for a year now and recently decided he wanted to wear pants at night. (We've never pushed potty training -- all has been led by him). He's been wearing pants at night for the past 3 weeks but he is now waking for a wee early in the morning (5ish, sometimes earlier). He needs me to help him pull his pants up and sometimes he won't go back to sleep afterwards. We co-sleep so, even if I didn't have to get up to help him, there's no chance of me not being woken if he gets up for a wee.

I know it's great that he's making progress with night-time dryness, but I'm finding the broken sleep and early starts really hard.

He asked for a pull-up last night and slept until 6.30 (pull-up was wet) so must have been aware that he was wearing a pull-up and it was fine to wee in it. Is this waking up for a wee the price we have to pay for dry nights, or will he gradually be able to go longer without needing a wee?

You could try lifting him onto the loo when you go to bed, then he might last longer in the morning.
