Hello again!

I am doing potty training with my boy who is 24mths. He was potty train very good last month when we were on holiday in my home country, but has now gone backwards and he was scared of the potty after coming back from holiday and having diarrhea, so we put him back in nappies and are trying again. but we are not forcing him and we still being very casual.
I am very happy because he is not scared of the potty anymore and will sit on it now. He has done one poo on the potty this week and a some wees when I hold potty up to him, but he only want use it when he is in the right mood. He does not wear nappies in the house, I have him with no clothes on him bottom only sleeping and going outside, but he still have lots of accidents because he does not say to go.

Anyway, I was thinking that this doll looks like a good idea, because he likes to play with dolls at childrens centre, and maybe it would help him with his potty training? Has any mummies here found that a doll which goes to potty is a good idea?

Thank you, MrsTumble

maybe he isnt ready then. Why not put him in a nappy and try again in a few weeks if he seems receptive. I never used a doll so cant advise with that

We had a doll and I think it helped him get the idea. He found it funny that the doll did a pee in the potty when he was scared to.

But if the problem is he isn't telling you he needs to go, I don't think the doll will help with that, unless you role play the doll saying "I need to pee!"

I ask ds a lot if he needs to go and he is a lot better at telling me now. Was he telling you when he was on holiday?

tbh, when we first started dd/ds didnt tell me they needed to go as i took them to the toilet/used the potty at regular intervals, It wasnt until later on that they told me if they needed to go to the toilet.

Hello thank you so much for your advise,

yes he was saying when he needed to poo, but he wasn't saying he need to wee, when we were away, but he always used to be very happy to go on the potty when we take him there and he used to go over to sit on him on his own. He was potty trained quite well over there (my parents help me because in my country children are potty trained very early) but then the problems started when he became ill and we came back. Yes I was thinking to do role play with the doll and play with it with him.

I do think that he is ready but I we are trying not to be too forceful and letting him take his time. I thought maybe this would be a a new way of showing him and letting him have some control, and have something to copy because he is a only child, and he is scared of the toilet so even though he watches me in the toilet he cannot copy. I worry that if I keep telling him to use the potty and putting him there I will scare him again, so maybe he will learn better if he sees it be done.

Can I ask, how old were you children when you did potty training I love power hoop and when did they were saying they need it?

dd was 2½ years when I started potty training and ds was about 20months old. With ds I started with pull up nappies and took him regularly to the toilet. It took a couple of months for him to start saying when he needed the toilet and then I put him in pants. He was daytime trained by the age of 2. He only peed in the potty if he was standing and I held the potty up for him to pee in. He only pooed in the potty once or twice as he ended up doing them on the toilet instead. Do you have a toilet training seat as that could help him feel more secure?
