The saga continues! 3.10 DS started asking to go to toilet last week which was great - he has decided to stop doing that and now holds in for long periods of time and then just lets it slowly dribble into his pants. I asked him to come to the toilet and he said "I'm too busy" How can I get him to stop what he is doing and just go to the toilet...yesterday he had a damp patch in his pants and I didnt say anything to him and when he sat down for his tea he said that he needed - must have been the pressure. he seems to know when he needs he just can't be bothered to go. We are going on holiday this week with a couple of long car journeys - should I put him in pull ups for this bit? He peed the car seat on way home from nursery yesterday....grrrrrr

What about insisting he changes his wet pants himself, puts them in the wash basket or bucket, and mops up? I bet he will get fed up pretty quickly and realise that going to the loo is much quicker and less hard work! I think sometimes you have to be firm and pause the DVD or whatever so that he has to go before you put it on again, if he says he's too busy to go.

For your car journey, get some disposable changing mats for him to sit on to protect his seat. Have frequent stops for the toilet, and insist he at least 'tries'. Possibly the prospect of weeing outdoors might tempt him, if you are travelling through rural areas. You could tell him that none of you will be going anywhere until he does his wee, and you won't get to your holiday.
