Potty training

Giving up after 48hrs - is DD just not ready?

DD is 2.4, very physical and capable (can do zips etc) but has almost no language yet. Has never shown any inclination of wanting to be out of nappies or even being aware/bothered when she has soiled herself, but since it's half-term I thought 'why not?' Grin Hmm Confused Angry Blush

48hrs later I'm having second thoughts. Her training appears to have gone backwards.
Quick recap of last 2 days, when I first got the potty out she went straight over and did a wee. Cue much cheering, stickers etc. 20 mins later she went over and did another, stickers and cheers. Buuuuut since then she has done everything on the floor. 4 more wees yesterday, even after bribery suggestion of chocolate buttons and dummies if she did it in the potty.

Today has been the same, poos and wees everywhere but none in the potty. Bare bum or knickers on, she'll just do it then and there and is just not bothered.

She obviously knows what the potty is for, but even when I tell her she'll get a button or dummy, she just says 'no' then 30mins later goes on the floor. She doesn't have enough inclination language to tell me she's going to go, so I have no warning, and she just says 'no' if I ask her if she needs to go.

So... am I kidding myself, is she just too young and not ready? I don't want to feel like I'm copping out too soon Blush but, frankly, I have had it up to the eyeballs with clearing up poo and wee today for a child who seems perfectly content to just stay in nappies.

I rememeber trying with ds2 at around the same age last year. I gave up after 48 hours incarceration in the house and umpteen poos/wees on the floor.

I'd say she just isn't quite ready yet. If you can bear to leave it a couple of months it'll probably be easier.

FWIW ds2 just started doing it when were on holiday- took a saucer from the cupboard Blush (we did bleach it afterwards!), took it onto the balcony and filled it. I think running around nekkid helped-plus he had obviously remembered the previous efforts!

Thanks Shodan - I think that's probably the kind of atmosphere that DD needs, somewhere she can run around in the nuddie and I'll just chuck a potty in the garden for her to play with. I think I'm going to make a blanket statement that I'm not going to trsin her till she's 3, and if she decides to start before then then great.

Right, where's that nappy.....
