A wee bit of advice, if you please. My DS (4) has been dry during the day for over a year now. However, he still wears pull-ups at night. He has the occasional night where he is completely dry, but usually, it's wet. Is this a sign of laziness or should I wait till he has been dry for, say, a week, before putting him to bed without?

Hi there, my son is 5 and has been dry during the day since he was 3. He also still wets most nights and has pull ups on every night. We try and take them away now and then but i guess he's not ready yet. Both my girls have been dry day and night since they were 2 and a half but my 9 year old son still wets the bed every night. We have seen lots of doctors and tried medications and have come to the conclusion that he will grow out of it. I have always found my girls easier than the boys when it comes to dryness so not sure if there is a link there. We were once told by a nurse that they will wet more if the nappy is there to safe gaurd them, how true that is i don't know. Maybe you could try without for a few nights and see what happens.
Hope this helps a bit, sorry i can't really advise the best course other than he will most probably become dry with time.

Apparently docs and HVs aren't worried til they're past 6. DS is 4.5 and don't see him dry at night any time soon!

I work in a Reception class. Whenever pupils of ours are seen by professionals with regards to bed wetting/toileting issues, the first thing the parents are told is to get rid of the pull-ups. Subconsiously they are aware that they are wearing one & will go in their sleep.

I double sheet DS bed so should he have a rare accident, I just have to whip off the first layer. Boots online do excellent mattress protectors that are all "cottony" so you could even use them without a top sheet.

I also have a 4 year old DS and he wees every night, even poos four nights in seven. He is such a deep sleeper. There are a number of other things that cause it with him, I think. He will not get out of bed unless we're there. He never has. When we first put him in a bed from the cot it was great as we've never had to go through that stage of getting him back into bed. However, it's a nightmare when we come to dry nights.

He's also in Pullups. I think we'll leave it 6 months or so and then go cold turkey and keep them off..... will be prepared with lots of layers of sheets and mattress protectors! I don't think we're going to try it until he stops pooing in his sleep....
