Potty training

When do you actually call them potty trained?

We started training DS last Thursday so today is day 6. The first 3 days he had 2 accidents a day, now he is having 1-2 accidents a day, more poos than wees. We haven't been out that much. He had an accident on our first proper trip out but as we were in a toyshop this wasn't unexpected. He had 1 accident and 1 success at my nans yesterday afternoon and 1 accident and 3 sucesses this morning, including a successful poo.

At what stage do you actually say they are trained? I'm not saying at all that I think DS is trained but was just wondering when you call it trained.

When an accident is actually an accident.

If the child is still having an accident every day then I'd definitely not think they're trained just yet. They're still in the hit-and-miss phase, which hopefully doesnt last long as they're clearly getting the hang of it - just not quite there yet.

I think another good way of looking at it is that most kids - ime - once properly trained (ie will only wet themselves if too far from a loo or very occasionally if too engrossed in playing etc) would be pretty upset about having an accident, as we would be, but if not trained yet are still fairly happy to just go where they are!

All that waffling...but basically when you know the only worry is having a toilet close enough. Rather than, ok we're near a toilet but will he use it? iyswim.

Once trained he'll use the toilet. Going in his pants wont be an option anymore.
