cherry hope you having a lovely time catching up with friends, must be hard living so far away, and Japan is tough!
chick you LO was early, hope it was ok, could be scary. Yes 20+ gap is mental, but so am I to be getting back to it, clearly forgotten how much hard work it is, so was like well, how hard can it be, done it twice, and millions of idiots are doing it every day.. also pregnancy and birth were uneventful, but sleep deprivation really got me! how did you get on with the nurseries today?
dupain good luck with the weaning, I found Annabel Karmel book really useful
angelico IKWYM re babyrice, our local bf consultant is totally against it and told me no nutritional value, causes constipation, etc, but then again she is quite a radical Italian mama who thinks we shoud bf until they are 20 and wean them on pasta and olive oil! I am not kidding....

Thanks cava, one of my RL friends has also recommended Annabel Karmel, I think I am going to get it as everyone seems to think it's good!

DD woke up every two hours last night, so fingers crossed tonight goes a little better...I was knackered all day but had a nap when she did this afternoon and now not remotely tired

No worries about doing the new thread. It was my pleasure. The nurseries were good Cava. They all had their plus and minus points though so we are going to put our name down for a couple and hope one comes up in time. The was one that I completely fell in love with but it's got a 12-18 month waiting list. Crazy!!

What's the Annabel Karmel? I've heard her name mentioned a few times. I knew she did recipes for toddlers but is she doing a book about weaning too??

chick she is the "children food guru" aparently. I was given her " Top 100 baby purees". It has a lot of recipes for stage one and two weaning (up to 12 months), and general guidelines about which food when, allergies, nutrition, etc. The recipes are very easy and most can be cooked and frozen in advance. However, it does not give you a schedule for weaning (i.e. replace 9am feed with x gram babybrice etc which i belive some books do, a RL friend found Gina Ford book on weaning useful for that, but I think Karmel has written one on weaning as well) just guidelines. It suits my approach of mix purree and blw as it gives you a lot of ideas how to be creative but probably not enough info on how to actually wean IYSWIM. I like cooking and we cook a lot, we also try to use seasonal fruit and veg whenever possible as they are tastier than the ones with a big airmiles account (and cheaper:)

Hmmm... dd woke at 6.30 so I fed her, put her back down (looking very much awake) and said to dh 'right I'm having a shower' (thinking ha ha he'll have to get up and get her in 5 mins). However she went back to sleep! And is still asleep! Is this the mythical self settling I hear tales of??? I've had breakfast, unloaded the dishwasher, put laundry on. printed a letter, online banked, caught up on fb drank 2 (yes 2) cups of hot (yes hot!!!) tea and now don't know what to do with myself.

Oh yes and we have an AK book too "the complete baby and toddler meal planner" has some good ideas I think, more purees than baby led but that's fine with me, she seems to assume weaning early so we are just combining her first & second stages straight away if YSWIM.

Got to go, finally hear stirring...

yaeee for babyWooly! woolyis amazing how much we can get through in a couple of hours! papa would have proly just checked his emails and read the news haha! It comes to show that our LOs will get there hopefully!

Wow wooly that's amazing! Ds is still not sleeping well its all turning into a blur. I'm keeping a log tonight a la no cry baby sleep thingy. My dh is away with work tonight I'm pissed off annoyed. It's his last week before he starts new job so he could if told them to do one, I'm so tired at the min I actually asked him not to go, usually I understand work is work but ds is sleeping so badly I really need his help. I feel deserted and resentful that he'll be getting a good night's sleep and wonder if that's why he was so insistent on going so he could sleep. Fucking arse. I'm tired so I'm aloud to be totally unreasonable.
So far ds went to sleep at 7, woke briefly at 8 and straight back to sleep but then again at 10 and taken till now to settle tried cuddles, food burping in the end git him semi conscious in cot hand on chest repeating "calm down" in low tones fingers crossed. He wakes up screaming blue murder but his eyes are tight shut......is this normal? Any ideas I miss more than 2hrs sleep :'(
So I actually had a lovely day with pil, we had lunch at farm shop then to an aunts but ds ate sweat fa. This always happens with pil they take him from me and then over stimulate and he won't feed or I'll be trying and they are e bloody singing and dancing and claping at him while I try. Argh I need to stand up for myself.

Good on babyWooly for giving mummy extra time in the morning! IKWYN about not knowing what to do with yourself sometimes when they're sleeping unexpectedly!
DD woke up at 5:20 yesterday, happy and singing but very awake and ready for the day, fed her and had her in bed with us like we do every morning, then the little toad fell back asleep until nearly 8 (leaving us very awake!)

Has DS got any teeth through yet slightly ? I think DD's next tooth will be through on Sat, then another one early next week by the looks of things And we inflicted further insult with final jabs yesterday, but she seems OK so far so fingers and toes all crossed!

Has anyone read the BLW book? Is quite good, I quite like the lazy relaxed approach, although she is very anti doing anything other than letting your baby feed themselves! Come to that, all aby book writers seem to be very strongly polarised... maybe I should write a book about mixing it all up...

How long does the I've-rolled-on-my-stomach-and-am-really-pissed-cos-I-can't-get-back stage last??? Getting rather tiring!

DD doesn't roll over at all - she's done it a few times from tummy to back, but not since a couple of weeks ago. Should I be worried? She is sitting up by herself now though (very wobbly though!)

I haven't read blw book but I'm guessing it's all about soft finger foods? I'm going to try mixing both approaches I think and see how he goes.
Ds can and has rolled both ways but only when suits him and does seem to bothered by it, he'd far rather be sitting up reaching around hmmm wonder if he'll be one of these kids that skips crawling? He's back to planning at the min which is very frustrating when trying to get him in high chair, car seat etc but also can be very funny :)
On subject if car seats has anyone moved up out of mobile car seats into bigger kid ones I probs should as ds is big at 20lbs!!! He'll be 6 months on the 26th but it's so easy when he's sleeping to just clip it on the buggy oh decisions decisions!

slightly poor you, hope you managed to get some sleep. booo hiss for dh leaving you on your own when so stressed! Can you leave hom in charge of bedtime during w/end so you can get a glass of vino or a brew in peace? or try to get some time for yourself, even 20min out of the house? I noticed babyCava gets really wired in the evening when we have been doing a lot during the day, meeting people etc, so I find giving her nappy free time before bath to kick around helps often as it tires her, but of course does not help when teething etc. sorry if not helpful
dupain yes very easily pleased these days, btw I ordered philips avent baby food storage set from amazon is on special offer, good reviews and recommented by a RL friend for freezing.
smile have not read the book, but tbh I am tired and a bit fed up by the how to feed our baby debate/advice in the public domain, do you find there is NEVER middle ground, is always bf-ff, blw-puree, etc, and it is so judgemental! Makes you feel guilty one way or another, one would thing they have bloody figured out what is best for the baby since we have been having babies for quite some time now!! I think we have to make sure our babies have enough nutritious food and are well informrd on allergies etc, and whatever works for us we should do guilt free. Sorry for the rant! I think a book on the middle way is a great idea, go for it!
Nice and bright here, have friends coming for lunch today bit miffed as they said dont worry about food we bring stuff etc etc, then texted at midnight "shall we do take away" well not really! me trying to eat healthy as given up on losing waight but trying at least not to put on more! This is my first ever post I've been reading for ages (sorry if that's a bit creepy) I find it really helpful to read about other people with DC the same age (its a relief to know I'm not the only one who's DC have never slept for more than a few hours in a row) anyway re weaning I've got a book "weaning made easy" by Dr. Rana Conway I'd really recommend it she outlines the pros and cons of traditional & BLW and then a balanced (mixed) approach there is a meal planner and a few simple recipes. I found it really helpful so thought I'd recommend

Cava your rant made me chuckle yes think back 500 years I imagine people just fed what they could. Also interesting to look at different cultures that's why I'm going to do both mush and blw. Ds already grabs the spoon to feed himself which is highly entertaining and very messy.
I got some sleep and caffeine is kicking in :) in all fairness to hubby he's very good when at home so I will get some me time. I'm spoilt really when I think of single mums or relationships where one works away it must be very hard!
Going to cheer myself up by going spending cash in mothercare :)

slightly well done for getting some sleep :) burning cash (mostly intrnet shopping lately as babyCava does not like shops generally, she gets really hot and bothered, only Waitrose for the little madam hehe) is great for therapy, make sure you get something for youself too (lipstick is my thing). Meant to watch bed time life thingy as the woman was on women hour on radio 4, what was it like? I think I can get it off the 4oD.

ghrr spelling on iPad not working sorry! hate touch keyboards and predict.. So much for healthy eating made chock and strawberry cake for tea and we off to the pub for lunch, oh well, once I finish bfeeding...
chick forgot to fill you in on baby yoga, is nice, 1.5h, babies in the middle on rug and we on yoga mats, it kind of works for an hour then LOs become restless so feed/cuddle/etc. The instructor is a bit of a baby whisperer, she watchds over them while we stretch and knows all sorts of tricks to calm them down for a while, then we have tea and biscuits and a chat after the class, so it is on the whole good to get one out of the house for two hours and meet other mums. However, it is pricey (£13 vs£5 at local surestart but they not doing it anymore). Also it only makes sense to do it while LOs still stationary,once they start crawling and you have to chase them around the room forget it! hope this is helpful
