It doesn't seem like my constituency is really being contested..

To be fair, it's no where near being a marginal, but a little competition might be nice

Only two parties are making any effort at all with posters etc - the third major party is nowhere to be seen at all - not a poster or a leaflet through the door in sight.

Seems odd somehow. Anyone else feel that way, or is it just my area ?

My area has a very strong Conservative Majority. We've had 1 Green leaflet, 1 labour leaflet and 6 Conservative pieces of literature.

In such a safe seat it seems like a waste of resources.

Nobody does anything in my area, it's such a safe seat. Not had a single leaflet or anyone canvassing me, or seen them canvassing anywhere.

It sucks!

me too.

I genuinely think the lib dems could win this from the tories if anyone made an effort. Loads of effort for the local elections but nothing for the general election.

they will have target seats and activists based in safe seats are sent to help at the target seats.

I was about to start a thread like this. Our constituency boundaries have changed. We didn't officially know we were part of a new constituency until the polling cards arrived. Save for looking on the net I would not know who any of the candidates are as we have not had any info from any of them.

Our old const was one of the safest tory seats and I'm assuming this new one will be similar. It would be nice to think that you and/or your vote mattered though. dh and I feel extremely about it. PR is the way to go.

Sorry guys, in our system, your vote only counts if you're in a marginal constituency. That's the way the cookie crumbles, and other cliches...

Seriously, though, the parties have limited funds and have to spend them as best as they can - no point spending £1000 leafleting in an unwinnable seat.
Plus, if your constituency is, say, heavily Tory, likelihood is there are relatively few Labour party members living there, still fewer of those will be committed enough to do the door-knocking, leaflet-delivering etc. Particularly if they know they're going to lose anyway. Hard to get motivated!

Perhaps that's a local (activist, or lack of) issue, muddleduck as I've had three items from the Lib Dems, one from Labour, one from Plaid, one from UKIP and I think one from the Conservatives (but it was a fairly safe Labour seat, so I expect the Conservatives think there's more chance of Hell freezing over).

There was some local criticism of the Lib Dem candidate for not having put his literature in Welsh as well, someone decided it was 'disrespectful'. No affiliation suggested from the writer, but in my view might choose Plaid Cymru.

The UKIP candidate was spouting off about Climate Change being rubbish, which, if nothing else, would turn me against them.

I have already had a skipful of leaflets and been canvassed repeatedly in the street. Tripped over one of the candidates at the school gate today!

Would you like a sack of my secondhand election bumf, Cmot?

No, no, quite all right Trowel . I think I just miss there being any local excitement about elections
