DO Gordon Brown and David Cameron have to win their seats to be eligible to become PM? What if they didn't win?

Yes they do have to win to be a MP and therefore to be PM.

Yes they have to win or they wouldn't be MPs.

GB will win for sure tho as his seat is a Scottish Labour stronghold.

Cameron hmm MP for Witney, 14,000 majority, not in danger I would imagine.

As a rule party leaders have pretty safe seats.

BTW I see DC's youngest child is called Elwen - I thought he was Arthur? Wot's that all about then???

It used to be that you could sit in the House of Lords and be PM, but that stopped with Douglas-Home, who gave up his peerage to sit in the Commons.

I also thought DC's youngest was Arthur but lately he is being referred to as Elwen which is his given middle name so they must have decided they prefer that.

That's a bit crap then, wrt to Arthur I mean.

Or maybe not. I mean I like the name and I am far from keen on a posh old Etonian who it turns out (on Wiki so prob wrong) is descended from William IV.

(query - how is this possible actually when WIV had no children....?)

wth has your lineage got to do with it?

I lived on a rough council estate for 10 years, my kids went to the local Comprehensive, i worked in local government and i drive a P reg Mondeo. Im also descended from The Mervingian king Dagobert II, various minor french nobility and my ancestors landed with Willaim the Conquerer.

My ancestors also include Sir Robert Silkstone (who died of the black death in 1347). Im also related to Walt Disney and Calvin Coolidge. My son is a descendant of Edward II and also John Balliol of Scotland

You ancestry is nothing to bloody do with what you are like as a person. Jeez, with morons like you voting no wonder we might get stuck with bloody labour again.

Lincstash - coo, you are inspiring me to do my family tree. Imagine if I could put on the internet that I was descended from King Dagobert!

Oh don't mind me, I'm just an old-fashioned egalitarian. No place for me in today's society I guess.
