Catholic Baptism Certificate

DS was baptised a couple of years ago in a parish on the other side of London.

I'm enrolling him in local nursery attached to a Catholic school.

I need the baptism certificate. I've found all the other items from baptism which I kept in a bag (print outs with ceremony info, the candle, greeting cards) but I can't find the certificate.

So I'm wondering if I definitely would have been given one on the day? Or is it something you need to request should you require it?

I need it ASAP so I'm wondering if I should keep searching or just request one. How do I request it?

Just ask the PP, they'll need the month and year and will do you a copy.

Don't know about Roman Catholic church, but in the C of E a baptism certificate is just a certified copy of the entry to the baptism register. They may well not have given it to you, but should make one for you if you ask.

We didn't get one for DD and the school were fine with the date and place of baptism. The priest kept forgetting to do it.

Thank you. I know the exact date so should be straight forward.

In my mind I assumed I must have one tucked amongst the other stuff but I guess it's not like a marriage certificate which is signed and a copy given, is it?

I don't want to waste time searching if it's in vain!

We were given it but still, don't panic, they will have it on record.

We were meant to go and collect dd's the next week but I kept forgetting and it was 7mths later I sent my dad for it (I was too ashamed!). From what I found out as dd's godfather had lost his they are recorded in a centralised place anyway. So as we're in London I called and requested gf's and he collected a copy same day. You can Google it for your local area or call the church she was baptised at and they'll advise you.

Thanks for the replies. Now I'm even less certain if I ever received one on the day.

It sounds like it's not too much hassle to request one.

I got one for both of mine. I lost dd1s and I needed to send it to the school, I just went to church and asked for one at the end of the service. They looked for her in the book and wrote one out there and then.

My friend did the same thing at a diffrent church and they charged her £10 for a new copy.

We didn't get one for any of our three. Didn't need it until Secondary application but I just emailed them and requested it (and for other two) and they posted them.

I never received one on the actual day for any of my three. When applying for primary school I picked up a copy from the parish office and the school held onto it for the time the kids were at school.
