sorry dont know if i spelt it right!Blush

my friend who has 2 special needs children has done her reiki 1 and 2 she was going to do her masters but then her mother (who allways likes to rain on her parade) told her that during a bible reading they were discussing alternate therapy and reiki came up and they told her how it was evil part of the occult that is was devils work.

This has really put the wind up my friend as her mom gave her a information sheet, on it it says during the masters this is when you are crossing to the dark side and the evil spirits can even kill you.
I just feel really Sad for her as all her time is dedicated to her special needs children and this was her only enjoyment.
Has any body got any advice for her?

Yep. talk to a (sane and not overly obsessed with the occult / extremism) Vicar.

Funny, there was a psot a few weeks ago is reiki linked to buddhism because I'm Muslim and can't do it if it is; now this.

Yet from waht I was told at Uni (and I am doing a degree in world religions) it's not usually over affilliated to any faith. Person i was talking to NOT an expert though.

OK, have looked, appears to be Shinto. look on \link{http://www.sacred-texts.com/shi/\here}

not studied Shinto but basically an old japanese religion that has fed into Buddhism etc.

From the incredibly little I know there is an element of ancestor worship etc in Shinto, but killing? Um, sceptical!!!!!

Give the reiki place a bell

No wonder numbers at church services are dwindling! Reiki has nothing to do with the occult. Even the NHS are offering alternate therapies as treatment these days. Acupuncture has been around a long time. Jesus healed and he wasn't practicing the occult.

Your friend should carry on with the reiki - ignore the mad vicar! They're just worried because people are finding their own spirituality. Case of good v evil! Tell your friend to talk to her reiki master.

Ive told her she should talk to her to her reiki master and she said she was to embarresed to as its employing that she is on the dark side!Grin

I told her that i thought it was a case of dont practice anything spiritual unless its to do with the church.

If it was me i would say thanks for the advice mom Angry but i really enjoy doing reiki and so far i havent encountered anything evil (apart from you) so im going to carry on doing it!

I can understand the embarrassment! But I'm sure her RM won't take it personally.

I agree - I'd just carry on doing it - if she enjoys it and helps with the children.

Hi, I am a Christian and also interested in alternative therapies. I have encountered the Occult being used by a therapist. I saw a herbalist and I swear I could literally see a cloud of evil - I've never been more terrified in my life - it turned out later she used Tarot. By contrast I have also had Reiki and felt it really beneficial. Tell your friend to trust her instincts - the Spirit will guide her and if she is happy then she has no worries. As for her mother, she sounds like she belongs to the sort of controlling church where 'Bible study' means telling people what to think. Remember, the Bible is only a record of how people saw the world some 2,000 - 4,000 years ago - you can't take it as an infallible guide for modern life - and anyway there are lots of incidents in the Bible of people being healed with the hands and my guess is that Reiki is a form of this. If Reiki helps her and her kids and she feels at peace about it then she can rest assured that it comes from God.

hi i just read this thread and wanted to say that i experienced reiki from a friend of mine when i was invited to take part in her thesis on stress. i found that it was very beneficial and very healing for me, as for it being part of the occult - balderdash !!!!!! people will always mock what they don't understand. i would have thought that your mom/ mil (sorry) would be able to see how much it was helping the children.

i agree with the lady's comment about bible study telling people how to live their lives, i went to a class once and found it very restrictive in what you could or couldn't do.

please carry on with the reiki

My Nana believes that yoga is an occult practice as it opens the mind to evil spirits. As we live in a four generation house my mum doesn't like me to leave my yoga videos/ books out - not that I actually get round to doing it ever, as I worship at the church of cadbury.

Hi not sure if this will be too late for your friend as the thread is a while ago

i really feel for this lady. i urge her to try and be strong and stand in her own energy and therefore gently and yet strongly explain to her mother that perhaps her church may have misunderstood something

if she can explain some of the basic truths of reiki - that its very simply positive energy and essentially promotes unconditional love in the world - what can be wrong with that...etc

just because her mothers church says something doesnt make it true (its not true anyway, im a reiki master and its a beautiful joyous wonderful thing in life)

i hope she has the courage to continue - my love and blessings to her xx

Thankyou ladyhoward
allthough i dont do reiki but would like to learn it i think its a load of rubbish what her mom has told her.
Unfortunatley its to to late now, she should of done it the other weekend and as she had allready paid for course and then droped out because of her mother Angry she lost £100 from dropping out. I just hope that she will sign up for the next one as she enjoys it so much.

hi redbull
i really feel for her - but all is not lost. these things do work out i believe, a few hiccups along the way can be overcome.

family ties are so strong and i think its very very tough to stand up to them - i send her LOTS OF LOVE and encouragement to trust that all will be ok and that the reiki will help her gain in courage

(my mum was very religious and a bit skeptical but is now so into reiki -even more than me!!! and my 77 year old aunt is suddenly asking me about angels and healing and we're talking hard core roman catholics so things do shift)

delighted to hear youre interested in reiki - i can really recommend eternal light healing - theres a lovely guy called jeremy who does the initiations - its like reiki but also involves lots of different rays. not sure of the website but if you google "eternal light" and shimara it will all come up

their number is 01379 668 848 and i know they are doing the first level course sometime in june (last weekend i think)

lots of love toyou xx
