Caught drink driving - and had taken to frequenting the local hostellery nursing a bottle of claret (often)

Parish magazine stated that he "had been ill" for some time.

Poor Poor family - wife and 2 kids

Hasn't the church offered him any help?

My sympathies to his family.

That's so awful. The parish should be supporting him - specially if it turn out he is an alcholic. I bet he has helped many an alcoholic in his congregation.

I thought the Church really did all they could to support parish priests experiencing ill health, stress etc. I wonder if the conviction for drink-driving was the last straw, as this is a criminal offence.
Very sorry for his family though Crystal. How sad for them all.

Very sad for his family but he must have done a lot of really bad things. THe church really does not do this lightly. I have known many appalling cases of bad parish priests and no one including the bishop ever really did anything other than talk to them.

One of the problems with the Chirch of England is its poor management and lack of proper holding to account of bad practice. This would in my opinion make it more not less Christian as it woudl be fairer and more transparent.
