Moving house with 2 cats

Going to be moving house in a few weeks and we have 2 cats, sisters which we have had since they were kittens. They are 4 years old. Any tips on how to keep them happy when we move?

We left ours in a room in the old house until everything was moved, the made some kind of order in a room in the new house with their beds, toys and a litter tray. Brought them to the new house together, left them in that room for an hour or so then opened the door and let them explore by themselves, not following them around. Most of the furniture cane from the old house and by that evening they big had a favourite place (one on top of the wardrobe one under the bed) been here 18 months now and the house is definitely much more theirs than ours Smile

We put ours in the cattery from Thursday to Sunday, moved on the Friday. Meant that by the time they came to their new house it was just us there, no movers or family helpers, and most of the unpacking had been done so less obstructions from boxes etc. and they could start to learn the layout of the house as we intended it to be, wrt the big boys of furniture anyway.
but they did regularly go to the cattery and loved it so it was a bit of a no brainer, as we knew they'd be less stressed there than being involved in the move.

We are in a chain so not much chance of a phased transition. We also have a 6 month old to move. The cats will be in a cattery whilst the actual move happens.

Our cats are the same - 4yo sisters that we've had from kittens. We also put them in the cattery until move was completed and house was sort of tidy. Then confined them to small area of house to begin with. Didn't let them outside for about 10 days. They settled really well and prefer this house to the old one!

Thanks for the tips. We are going to keep them inside for a good week or two so they know that is their home now. It's a bigger house and there'll be lots of boxes around so they should have space to explore/hide from us.

WE used Feliway with ours - put it in the house to make them feel better about the place. TBH they were fine, we just kept them in for a couple of weeks till they found there way out one day and that was them settled.
