Invite or Invitation ?

'here is an invite to my party' - I hate this, but is it incorrect ?

I would say invitation. I see invitation as a noun and to invite being the verb. Many verbs are being turned into nouns though.

Surely in an exhibition you have a number of exhibits? No?

Agree with everyone about invite as a noun. Vile. Even if it dates back to 1600s, still no excuse.

invite - sounds a bit thick

on the other hand I think quotation is a bit pedantic and use quote. But then again I deal with quotes all damn day and that has probably coloured my thinking.
