'here is an invite to my party' - I hate this, but is it incorrect ?

I'd say invitation, but then I am a pendant (sic).

I would say invitation. I see invitation as a noun and to invite being the verb. Many verbs are being turned into nouns though.

'invite' just sounds wrong though...

It's like orienting and orientating, isn't it?

Invitation over invite, every time.

Ditto exhibition over exhibit.

Surely in an exhibition you have a number of exhibits? No?

Agree with everyone about invite as a noun. Vile. Even if it dates back to 1600s, still no excuse.

invite - sounds a bit thick

on the other hand I think quotation is a bit pedantic and use quote. But then again I deal with quotes all damn day and that has probably coloured my thinking.
