DDs christening in 4 wks time. Need a sponge cake that will serve around 40 people. Doesn't need to be dirt cheap but we don't have money to burn either!!

Any ideas?

When dd2 was christened i fretted about the cake but in the end we had a Sainsburys photo cake with a gorgeous piccy of dd2 on ,was lovely cake and a decent size too.

I used the yellow pages to find a nice retired lady who made cakes from home - cost £50 for a large fruit cake iced with a handmade blue train on top!
