Getting sick of the media criticising parenting skills

Hiya,

I'm sure there must be other discussions on here about this, but i'm wondering if it's just me, or with that new Good Childhood Inquiry report out the other week, is anyone else feeling slightly put out by it?

I especially didn't like the parts about the increasing numbers of women who work and how this is having a detrimental effect on relationships and family life. I'm a working mum, and I know life is like one long juggling act but I feel like i've achieved a great deal in my career and personal life, and my partner is very supportive. Perhaps what the report failed to mention is that increasingly more dads are taking a hands on role in bringing up their kids and the focus shouldn't just be on the mother! I know plenty of mums who work full time and their kids are just fine.

I don't know, maybe i'm just ranting, but it does annoy me!

me too, today it's grandparents are damaging children by looking after them.

i wonder who these so called experts are half the time.

I know! I wonder if half the experts deliberately come out with these radical headlines to make a name for themselves and clearly don't really care about the effect it might have on people who are genuinely devoted to their kids or grandkids...

I mean the fact that dads are so involved in their kids' lives compared to 30 years ago has completely been disregarded by the report as far as i can see. And you have to wonder what these reports actually want to do - what do they achieve? they just make everyone feel even more miserable about things in this country

it's from the children's society if you google them it's on their homepage i think. it's a huge report and i really wonder what it's hoping to achieve. i read some of its findings online and in the papers and it just depressed me!
