What do you do when your nearly 1yr old wants to stand up in the bath ALL of the time.....

oddly it's a problem I never had with the other DS's, they just seemed to accept that they had to sit in the bath.....however DS3 seems to make it his missions as soon as he gets in to stand up and trying and walk along the bath/along to his brother (I bath them together). This now means he's having extremely short baths.

I've tried various toys - but he just picks them up (while in standing position) and splashes as much as possible.......

My DS2 did this until he was 19 months. Never found a real reason for it and it just stopped one night and has never happened since. Wierd. And I suppose absolutely no help at all !

is it a problem then? lots of kids do it. you just wash them standing up and then let them play, standing up.

can't shower him - he's not actually walking yet - just cruising, and as I bath them together (DS2 and 3 in first, then I get DS3 out, DS1 gets in and plays with DS2, I go back and wash DS2 and then DS1 gets some time on his own).....showering would be an absolute nightmare...

i don't know, sometimes people just post about random things don't they?
I don't think there is anything you can do about it, so short of not bathing him I guess you'll have to put up with it,.
is it because you think he isn't safe walking around?

sometimes ds2 (15 months) sits down

sometimes he refuses and stands and plays with the toys while I wash him and it's a quick bath

even quicker baths are when he pulls the plug out straightaway and even if I hold it in he pulls and screams. So annoying.

i'd let him. my ds stands up in the bath too. actually he's going through a phase of trying to climb out which is a bit of a nightmare.

just let him get on with it IMO. you're there the whole time, it's not like he's going to drown!

it's more slipping and me not being able to catch him properly that I'm worried about and him bashing his head on the side of the bath or the wall.

have you got a slip mat?

They're not very big I know, they still slip on the edge. I think you will just have to have backache and short baths for now!

What about a new interesting bath toy?

FAQ, I was wondering the exact same thing this evening as ds2 stands up all the time, when I tell him to sit, he does but he does that huge falling on his bum thing and not only does he wobble over but he is so enormous he displaces half the bath water out onto the floor. You have my sympathies, when you find a solution please let me know.

we have grip patches in the shape of ducks and whales better than a slip mat IME.

he ought to be ok as long as you have one of those non-slip bath mats.
they're hardly little things, little boys.
ds1 wouldn't sit down in the bath until he was about 2.5, and I think he only slipped once or twice in that time, never seriously.
honestly, he'll be fine

you can get extra long bath mats now that go the whole length

yes I've got a slip mat, but with two of them in there at the same it doesn't really help.

I've just bought some new bath toys....he loves them - but wants to stand up and splash them and not sit down LOL.

Short baths for now it is then I guess.

I just let dd stand up, and made her baths deep enough that she still got washed by the water this way. The bottom of our bath isn't very curvy though, so wasn't overly worried about her slipping.

I'd go with the non-slip mat if your bath is slippier.

god I sound like I'm talking about my PFB don't I - he just so, well ermm so different to how the older DS's were at the same age (DS1 wasn't even standing and cruising, DS2 was walking confidently LOL).
