Siblings crying in school

Morning. I was hoping for a bit of advice as I am at a total loss as to how to deal with this.

I have 2 girls, 4 and 6. My youngest started in the school nursery this year so they are in the same place every morning. It's an infant school so quite small.

They are close. They do bicker but love playing together and spend most of their free time playing together. Which I thought was great as they would go off to their room or wherever and play for ages. We also occasionally do stuff separately with them and they never indicated they didn't like being apart.

They have been telling me for some time that they have cried when they see each other at school. It would only be at break time or assembly. I think it's when they have to say goodbye that they start crying. They have then said that they cry for a long time. I've tried to be cheery about it and say that it's nice they love each other but they should be playing with their friends at school because they can see each other at home. I've suggested just giving each other a big grin or a wave of its at break time (you're not allowed to wave in assembly apparently!).

Yesterday, the teachers sat them together during assembly because they were crying so much. But they still cried all the way through. I caught a moment with my eldest' teacher this morning and she said DD1 was inconsolable until lunchtime!

Has anyone dealt with this, got any advice?
It breaks my heart to think of them feeling like this but I also worry about them missing school and the interaction with their peer groups.

I think that it's DD2 (who I have always considered to be the more emotionally tough of the two) who starts crying which then sets off DD1.

Sorry for the long post, I wasn't quite sure how much info to give.

I've never had this at school, but whenever DD goes anywhere on her own, DS is inconsolable.

Sorry I have no advice.

I'd talk to the teachers and see if they, individually, have any problems settling in.

If no other problems I'd talk to the girls seriously, particularly the older one, and explain that she isn't doing her sister any favours.

Maybe offer rewards for not crying?

Thank you for your advice. Given us some things to think about this weekend and to try.
Fingers crossed it'll all blow over soon!
