Hi,

Not too sure if this is in the right place. Just looking to know how some of you weaned your baby off formula onto cow's milk.? My son is 10 months old and I'm hoping to do it around 11 months to 1 year so any suggestions would be really helpful.? I have tried him with a little bit and he really doesn't like the taste

I mixed the formula with cows milk and gradually increased the proportions. So started with 90% formula to 10% cows milk and changed it every day. It didn't take long to move to 100% blue milk and saved a fortune!

my ds was only having 2 beakers/bottles of formula a day by 11 months so i replaced the mid morning one with cows milk then after a while the bedtime one too

as he was already having cow's milk in cereal etc it wasn't a huge change

I didn't think you could mix his formula with normal cow's milk but that's a great help I will definitely give this a try, he has been having normal milk in his cereal for the last 2 months or that. Thank You

Can you not? its not making up his formula with cows milk just topping up with cows milk maybe my advice is old fashioned but that is what weaning advice used to be

I just gave my daughter a bottle of cow's milk and that was that. She's 15 months now and perfectly happy with cows milk.

That's right, you need to make a smaller amount of formula and mix the made up formula with cows milk. Some kids seem to be fine with just switching, others (mine) are less happy with cows milk straight away.

We had to do it gradually as DS kicked up a huge fuss when I tried to just swop it over around 11/12 months. He was fine with all bottles except bedtime being replaced with a cup of cold milk. The bedtime one we had to mix it and also he has it warm. Took about a week to move from formula to cows milk.

MrsJayy I just presumed you couldn't mix it thought I heard my health nurse mention something but maybe not, Zogthebiggestdragon this seems like the best way to as my son doesn't like the taste of cows milk and he just turns his nose to it and pushes it away.! I'm gong to try mixing them next batch I make I will make less formula and add cows milk, thank you all so much for the help and suggestions.! Hears to hoping fingers crossedWink

Def mix it. Start 3/4 formula 1/4 cow, then 1/2 and 1/2 and so on. Have done this for all 3 of mine.
