How much does your child poo?

Sorry if this is TMI

My 17 month old daughter is a good water and always has been. She has three meals per day and often healthy snacks in between like raisins or fruit etc. She often eats bits of what ever me and my partner may be eating also...don't know where she gets her greediness from! Wink

Anyway I would say she has a very balanced and healthy diet, lots of fruit and veg, often has a hot lunch and dinner. She also has a small bottle of milk in the morning and one bigger one before bed at night.

I just wanted to gage what people would 'say' a normal amount of poos would be at this age because she is about four times and I just don't think that's normal! It's constant!

They are usually quite wet as well (sorry) like not a proper solid poo always mushy and generally she will poo after a meal and the poo seems to be the same colour as what we have just fed her (sorry again this is gross)

Does this seem normal? Should I take her to the doctors?

She never seems in pain with her tummy or whilst doing a poo seems fine...

Tell me about your children's poo habits please Confused

Totally normal at that age I'd say! I've got a 4 and 2 year old and they now do one or two a day but the consistency can vary dramatically.

At 17 mo their digestive systems are still really immature and I'm sure we had three or four a day of various consistency. Its totally normal to poo after a meal, the body is just making room! And her diet contains a lot of milk still too.

I'd only go to the dr if there is blood in her poo, she's in pain or if her bowel habits change suddenly.

My 20mo usually does one very big messy one in the morning, then 1 or 2 more poos in the day. But sometimes he can do up to 5 poos in a day!

You can usually see evidence of their recent meals in the nappy this is quite normal.

At 17mo she is growing and needs to eat a lot. It'll settle down.

That's a relief thank you. I guess in comparison to adults it seems excessive & im constantly thinking surely not another poo!! Shock

In terms of the consistency, I found poos always appear 'looser' when they are in nappies as they get squished. Since DD1 potty trained they appear much more formed and hold their shape but you can see on inspection (easy to see in the potty rather than the toilet as you get a close up view) they are quite soft.

At 17mo I think DD1 was having one or two poos a day, but there is a massive variation in what's 'normal'. Your DD's habits don't seem outside of the range to me, especially if she's a good eater with a lot of roughage in her diet!
