Help with bottles!

My son is 6 days old and tomorrow we have to go out for a few hours for the first time.

We are formula feeding him and have been using the tommee tippee perfect prep machine since we got home from the hospital.

So the question is - how do we prepare and take bottles out with us? Can we make them up in advance and just heat them in a jug of boiling water when needed?

This might sound ridiculous but I'm a first time parent and really don't know!

I just used pre made for when we were out. Much less hassle.

Will your ds take them room temperature? It's a little more expensive but we just buy the pre-made bottles for longer outings.

You shouldnt make them in advance unless they will be used within two hours. I use ready made cartons for when we're out.

I just used the premade bottles too, much easier.
Or I suppose you could bring a flask of hot water and the formula despencers with the right amount of powder and mix it up but that seems a massive faff.
Sometimes when I was skint I just took them already made up and gave them to him cold but you're probably not meant to do that

The powder needs to go into hot water (boiled less than half an hour ago). So it depends where you are going. If you are somewhere with access to a kettle then you can make one up fresh. Otherwise you'll need the rest made bottles. They can keep in the fridge for 24 hours after opened or you'll have to throw away any leftovers.
We are on holiday at the mo without our perfect orep.. Not sure if I miss that or our dishwasher more!!

You can get little milk dispensers for the tommee tippee bottles that keep the milk separate from the water until you are ready to use. I used to boil the kettle, fill the bottle, pop in the milk dispenser and keep in the little bottle pouch I got in my TT starter set. It would easily keep the bottle warm for a couple of hours...

KatyN is right, but people often forget/don't follow that rule - you should always use water that has boiled within the last 30 minutes for formula, as any longer than this and it will not kill any harmful bacteria (even more important with such a small baby!). Also NEVER use bottled water!

Pre-made cartons are the easiest way to go for long trips out. You can even buy Cow&Gate box sets that come with disposable teats, so you don't even need to take sterilised bottles with you.

At 6 days old it won't matter to your baby, but at around 4-5 months they may have become so used to a certain type of formula that the cartons don't work. For instance, my baby was on Comfort Formula from a few weeks old, then at 4 months we gave her a standard ready-made carton while out. She drank it all, but then threw it ALL up immediately. Just something to be aware of for the future if you change formula; try and stick to the same type of cartons.

Use the instant formula. The baby can drink it at room temperature.

If your baby will only drink warm milk take a Tommee Tippee flask out with you and warm the milk in that.

Yes either use ready made (and if you introduce that at room temperature early you might get away without having to warm it) or take a flask of boiling water and a bottle of cooled boiled water and a tub of powder and make it up like the PP machine does. I did that until we could persuade DS that the ready made stuff was drinkable and it's actually not that much hassle.

DD would only have her milk warm. I took the ready made formula out with me and poured it into her bottle. The Tommee Tippee flask has a lid which is the same size as the flask, which you can pour the hot water into. You then put the bottle in the lid for a couple of mins until it's warm enough. There's no need to faff with the powder.
