How to introduce new foods to picky eater when he gets mad at new foods on plate?

My son is quite a picky eater. I am wondering, what to do when he gets made if I put food on his plate that he does not want? Like I am hoping he would try it eventually or taste it. But if I put say a carrot on his plate he will get angry and throw the carrot on the floor or push the plate away. Scream or cry even. Meal times can be stressful! What would you do? Hoping he will out grow this soon!

Could you try just putting food on plates or in bowls in the centre of the table so he can 'choose' if he wants to? Puts him in control a bit more. That approach didn't work overnight miracles with my (terribly!) fussy eater (he is 11 now and much better, though...so there is hope Grin)....but after about the twentieth time we put out salad, he did get curious and start to try bits of cucumber or whatever. I dont know old your child is (?), but eating as a family around the table and serving ourselves did tend to be the time he would try new stuff, rather than me plating it up for him, iyswim.

I also found introducing new foods that were very like the foods he already ate worked quite well. So a bit of brown rice instead of white rice, wholewheat pasta instead of normal pasta, breaded fish instead of graded chicken etc...sort of 'new foods by stealth' approach, i suppose Grin
