Teething - what works?

Well ds is teething.

He has been dribbling for England, runny nappys and has had everything he can get his hands on in his mouth, he's also rubbing his gums with his fingers and tounge Confused. Earlier on when I was changing him, he grabbed a wipe and bit down on it and there was a small spot of blood.

I tried using dentinox gel but it didn't make a difference at all, he was getting very uncomfortable and over tired so I gave him some calpol.

Any recommendations on what I can give him that works well?

And any ideas on how long his will last?

I found anbusol liquid to be the best soother, much better than any gel or powders. Teething toys kept in the fridge, so nice and cool when they bite on them. Can last a while, they have 20 teeth to pop through, the worst buts are when the teeth are moving around in the gums.

Wine For you.

My DD got her first tooth days before her 1st birthday (April 2015) she began teething in August 2014. ??????

Sometimes it lasts for months and other times it doesn't every bubba is different I reckon.

I'll suggest lots of bibs, cold carrot sticks and sugar free calpol.

Anbesol and ibuprofen (rather than calpol as it helps with the inflammation). You have to ask for Anbesol at the pharmacy counter - it isn't on the shelves. Amazing stuff. We don't use anything else now and DD is 18 months. Nothing else even touched the sides.

Can the anbesol (hope I spelt it right!) be used from a certain age?

Ds is just over 21 weeks.

It's been evil! It's been going on for a while now and people kept saying it was teething. Poor little guy! I can't feel any teeth which I am surprised because of the blood. His cheeks do get hot and red though.

I second using anbesol and nurofen. They are the only things that have worked for us. Tend to use anbesol at bedtime just before my dc's bedtime feed and give nurofen at bathtime. Ibruprofen is generally better for dental pain than paracetemol based products as its longer lasting.

Teething granules, ibuprofen, teething toys in fridge, plenty of cream for the sore bits that come with nasty teething poo...

And a stiff drink for you.

Calpol for nighttimes. Sticks of veg as a distraction during the day. And DD quite likes her cheeky hamper bib with the rubber teether built in. Wasn't interested at first but now she's older and getting molars it seems to hit the spot.

There is some sort of mesh net thing which you could put veg in for them to chomp on, can't for the life of me think what it is called but is found down the baby aisle in a supetmarket

I used to put carrots in the freezer & let him chomp on those - can be put in mesh bags if you'd like

We tried all kinds with DD but nothing seemed to soothe or help her until my friend suggested Gumigem teething jewellery. She actually works for them and I honestly thought she was just trying to make a sale but since using them I've recommended them to everybody who has a teething baby. Got DD a bubba bangle at first and within a few days the tooth had cut through. She now has 7 gumigem's and as soon as she shows signs of discomfort or starts chewing her fingers, I whack the necklace round my neck and let her chew on the pendant. There are a lot of designs and colours to choose from and made of non toxic silicone.

DD liked freezer teethers, like this one. She's finished teething, but she still sometimes wants a freezer teether when she is upset.
