has anyone ever been to tarifa in southern spain?
what's it like if you're not a windsurfer? just the beaches look great and it doesn't seem as touristy as other parts of southern spain. Is it nice or a bit of a dump? seeking answers please.

Cedar, we visited this coast last september and had a fabulous holiday. We stayed at the Melia Atlanterra hotel just outside Zahara de los Atunes, which is about 20 minute drive from Tarifa.
Neither of us windsurf by the way. The beaches were fabulous and deserted with beautiful sand. Ok on occasion it got a bit windy but nothing that stopped you enjoying sitting on the beach. In fact dd thought it was great as she could fly her kite no problem.
There is not a huge amount to do if you are looking for theme parks, kids activities etc. but if you are looking to get away from the crowds then go for it.
We didn't actually visit Tarifa but got friendly with a Norweigan couple & their ds who were staying there and they loved it. I believe you can get day trips to Morocco from there if you fancy something different.
The hotel we stayed in was great, 3 swimming pools + a paddling pool. A kids club. Bike hire. A Gym & Beauty salon etc.
There are also loads of small family restaurants serving freshly caught fish etc. and they were all perfectly happy to cook something to order for dd if they didn't have a kids menu.
If you want any more information about the area please do ask.

thank you, viv. Did you explore the area at all? Go to other beaches (any that you recommend?)or visit towns nearby? Any info about the area that would help us 'visit the good bits and miss out the bad bits' would be greatly appreciated. Basically, dh and i like the quiet life, small, pretty towns with friendly tavernas, deserted beaches that sort of thing ... dd loves a sandy beach.

Having said that, I'm thinking about combining this with a trip to Seville. Don't know if you did that, did you?
