St albans...the low down on traffic...

We have sold up and moving out of North London this summer. St Albans is top of my list but husband worried it's too trafficky. He works from home and commutes to Bedford 3 times a week, and wnts to live there. So is the traffic In St A really bad? He thinks it will be no better than London and that it snares up as soon as there is any trouble on the M1 & M25.
Any info would be much appreciated.

Hi there, I know that traffic into the centre from the south is appalling in the rush hour, but not about northwards to Bedford. Is the train doable?

Perhaps post on the local site for more info: local.mumsnet.com/hertfordshire.

Yes, the centre is traffic city.

If your Dh is working in Bedford, why not try Ampthill. It's quite nice and family friendly there. Plenty of other villages around that are nice.

I work in St. Albans, but mainly in Harpenden. I don't really rate St. Albans that much. Sorry...

It has become so busy over the years.

The traffic is not that bad. I work in north St. Albans and it takes less than 20 mins to get there. I live in a village south of the city. There are plenty of back roads to go down too. Watford is far worse.

Thank you everyone! We are going to do some dry runs from different areas and see how it goes
