Possibly going to work in Wyton and looking for a good safe area, with good primary and secondary schools. Would like green spaces for walks, bike rides etc. Any advice please?

Yep Godmanchester - definitely. Lovely place....lovely people

If I had to choose 1. Godmanchester (by a mile) 2. St Ives

Of the latter two Bury.

I used to live in Chatteris a billion years ago. It's stuck in the middle of nowhere really. Well, it was when we lived there. We really are talking 30 +'years ago so it may be firmly attached to 10 other towns nowGrin I only popped on to this thread to say I used to live thereBlush

At least Godmanchester and St Ives are within driving distance of Cambridge. Both are lovely towns imo, no idea about schools though.

Thank you all for the info. It's so difficult trying to decide where to focus our attention. We have a 11 and a 7 year old, who love riding bikes and dog walks. We live in Surrey and are blessed with loads of green space and cafes, so we're probably more picky than we need to be!

Godmanchester primary is rated 'outstanding' and Hinchingbrook secondary is (IMO) very goof

St Ives is my fave out of those three.
Very pretty, nice pubs, lovely walks by the river, Pleasant town.

Chatteris, sorry but all I can say is webbed feet!

Godmanchester.
Is ok. I only tend to drive through it. Plus the A14 goes over the top of part if it.

Do not move to Chatteris.
I would pick St Ives.

Godmanchester from your list by a mile. I grew up around there and went to Hinchingbrooke secondary school which is still a very good school by all accounts.
Godmanchester has a nice small high street, some lovely pubs and it's right on the river. Also a 15 min walk, 5 min drive from Huntingdon and only 30 mins from Cambridge. Also on the edge of the countryside, and a very nice place to live.

Ok, so a field trip is in order I think, Godmanchester and St Ives. All great stuff, thank you again for all your time and comments.

Had a look at GMC earlier this week. Very lovely and the people are friendly as you said. Spent quite a long time chatting to estate agent and also the lovely staff in The Exhibition pub, who had grown up in GMC. Another local was also very friendly as was the startled lady walking her dog who I stopped to talk to! So a tick from me, but the schools are very full. What's eveyones opinion on Houghton?

We did a quick scout about the shops there some time ago, but need to go back and spend a bit of time there and get a proper feel for the place.
