Accident at nursery

My lo had an accident at nursery, from how it was described to me and how the teacher herself said she got very scared, I think it could have potentially ended up much worse than it has an we were lucky little one wasn't badly hurt after all. I love the nursery and think they do a great job at taking care of my lo but I guess my concern is that this accident might have happened because they didn't have enough staff in the room. One of the teachers recently left and as far as I know has not been replaced yet, a couple of times at drop off I noticed there were more children than the teachers in the room would have allowed. I didn't think much of it as I know they have "extra" teachers moving around rooms as they need, and thought it was the start of the day and more stuff will be coming soon. Then today we had this accident and injury form and I'm wondering if maybe it happened in a moment where they were stretched? I know my lo is super active and it could have been that there were 10 teachers around and he still did it, but I'm thinking should I ask if it was because they are stretched and not enough staff? Last thing I want to do is raise a bit fuss, firstly cause my lo was ok in the end and secondly cause I'm happy with the childcare they provide. But I'm wondering what if it was a worse outcome or it happens again to another child? What would you do?

I would keep an eye on the ratios when you drop off and pick up. There are strict rules about this. However from what you've said there is no reason to suspect any wrong doing, a child hurting themselves is always a scary situation to deal with.

How old is your child? Is this a school nursery, or a private daycare? Are the staff actually qualified teachers, degree level qualified or lower? All of these factors will affect the ratios in a nursery.

Lo is under 2 and in a room where ratio is supposed to be 1:3

I think it depends on the type of accident. Ratios must be adhered to. If you're concerned book a chat with the manager to discuss. A good manager will go out of their way to listen, explain and clarify, and also apologise and put things right if a mistake has been made.

Yes I meant little one. I spoke to them and as I imagined it could have been the case the teacher was right there but my lo was being a tornado and got hurt before she caught him. I'm happy I asked and I don't think they minded. I trust them so all good. Thanks everyone for your inputs
