Good nurseries in London Fields Hackney area?

I have a 9mth old. I am going back to work in August when he will be just about a year old and am looking for nurseries. If anyone has experience of any in the Hackney area - close to London Fields - or in the City Road/Old Street area (which is where I will be working) that would be great! I am so dreading the whole thing!

hi bundle :o.

and hi nellieellie. my children go to mapledene, on mapledene road, it's fabulous. they are very well looked after, great facilities, fab food. my dd is the youngest (10 months) on the days she goes, & is often to be found in the office being fussed over by the deputy head feasting on grapes!

if your ds is over 6 months, you can put his name on the waiting list. they have a very strict catchment area, so it's best to ring up & check you fall within it. also, it's a lottery whether you get a place once you're on the waiting list. very annoying. so although it's a great place, i'd look at alternatives.

have you tried rosemary works (along the canal), or independent place (dalston). the ann tayler centre (london fields) should be open again soon, & they're expanding their nursery places. also (!), a new children's centre is being built in haggerston park, not sure when it's opening though.

Thanks so much for this -I have got DS's name down for Mapledene so good to know what it 's like. I haven't heard of the place along the canal though so will check that out. I've put him on the list for Ann Tayler and seen Independent Place which seems v nice though a bit in the wrong direction ....
Thanks again

there's one at the bottom of hackney rd, called noah's ark (?). a friend has her baby's name down for that & is impressed with it. i think it's moving to columbia rd though, so might not be in the right direction.

mapledene aren't having an intake 'til september now, they work on school terms. they're making the admission decisions in july, so it might be worth ringing them up to remind them who you are. and maybe going to the drop-ins - children who are known around the centre seem to get places quicker. hth.
