House valued, any help?

So we are looking to move asap , who do you go to to get your house valued, Iv heard estate agents do it free but worried that we will have to endure the hard sell for hours for us to use them, also is it worth spending hundreds of pounds doing up the house or just sell as is, no damage just needs decoration n some touch ups new carpets, time is very much key here, We want to move as soon as possible

Ask 2-3 local agents to value. Yes, they'll give you the hard sell - just say "Thanks, we're meeting with two other agents later this week and will get back to you either way."

It really depends on how off-putting the house is, and what the market is like in your area. If nothing else I'd buy a bright rug and some scatter cushions to liven up somewhere that's looking a little tired, and professional carpet clean if you have smokers or pets.

The house is not run down just needs brightening up with a lick of paint and new carpet, bathroom needs replastered so won't be cheap but hopefully worth it in the long run, ok so a few different ones then where to go next once that's done?
