Bathing 9mth olds - an update!

Thanks for all the advice re: bathing the DTs on my own. By happy coincidence a friend had 2 swivelly bath chair thingies that she's lent me and I attempted my fist solo bath last night. I am thrilled to report that it was a great success and they seemed to really enjoy sitting up and being able to see each other. Was much less stressful than trying to keep one entertained while I'm bathing the other which meant they could both spend longer in the tub. Hurrah!!!
They then went to sleep in record quick time and I even had the chance to whip up dinner before my DH got home from work. I truly am a domestic goddess!!

A couple of questions: How deep should I fill the bath? Worried that they'll get cold if it's not deep enough. Also, do you dry and dress them one after the other or more like: nappy on one then the other, vest on one then the other etc...?

So grateful for the advice. Was beginning to think the DTs would be regressing back to the Victorian era and having a weekly bath on a Sunday night!

Hey, bedfordgirl, congratulations. Glad to hear it went so well. You are indeed a domestic goddess!

Stop panicking. Unless you're completely stupid, which you don't seem to be, the level of water you're using is probably fine and whatever order you dress your DTs in is probably fine. Do whatever works best for you. There's no right or wrong way. Personally, I have enough water to come up to about waist height and I dress one completely and then the other, but that's just me.

Congrats and well done.

Thanks OptimistS! Although I know I'm not completely stupid I do feel like it in the uncharted territory that is twin motherhood. To think I've got a degree and used to hold down an important & stressful job. Makes me laugh to think about it now!

Glad it went well Bedfordgirl. I was following the last thread. My DTs are nearly 7 months and lie down in the bath at the mo but your thread made me think, when they can sit and want to sit up in the bath, they might still be slightly unsteady and need holding, so I have got two of the bath seats too.

BTW I leave one of my DTs in the bath while I dry and dress the other (one of them tends to get fed up of the bath first) I just keep having a look in at the other one every few moments to make sure she hasn't miraculously flipped on to her front and drowned .

A look in the bath that is, not in the bathroom - I am right next to the bath while I dress the first twin not out of the room (worried my post was not too clear then)!

Before my triplets sat up securely, I would give 2 toys to play with beside the bath while I bathed one. All of a sudden, they were steady enough to put 2 in together. Now they are 1 yr old, they all go in together and the one who gets bored first comes out first. I find it changes from week to week

I have started leaving one in the bath too while I dress the other one. Much easier than trying to stop both of them wriggling around on the changing mats and grabbing the towelwarmer that is like molten lava to the touch!

I also swap around which one gets out first depending on boredom levels (theirs' not mine).

I have just started reading a bedtime story and have found that it really settles them before bed. DT1 was going into meltdown each evening when I left the nursery and this seems to have put a stop to that. Until next week that is...
