Hi i have had my first scan today thinking i was around 14 weeks pg but to my surprise its twins! and i am 9 weeks! i cant believe it! my thread before now has been about family problems as my dad has taken the news hard as i am not in a relationship. i was wondering if anyone had had bleeding and cramping before? it was like period cramps and the bleeding was not for long. i told the doctor and he said this is common in multipule pregnancy but has also said it can end in miscarriage which has got me really worried!
i am going to take things easy for now to make sure they will be in good health but i am worried about what could happen!
any advice or experience would be great! thanks
marie and the bump!x

Hi Marie

Congrats on your twin pregnancy! It's certainly a bit of a rollercoaster. It's hard to give advice as everyone's twin pregnancy is so different. I was lucky enough not to have any bleeding but made up for it with lots of complicatons later on. Worth finding a local twins group and paying a visit when you're a bit further along. I've made some lovely friends through mine and it's nice to be the norm rather than the "mum of twins".

Have a read through all the posts in this section - there is some really useful advice. I also found this list from the Tamba site about setting up for twins - quite useful.

Best of luck with it

congratulations first off! i had some horrible cramps as well but luckily they eased off.. i was told exactly the same thing and it is so hard not to worry but the obvious thing im going to say is just try your hardest not too!!!
take care, put your feet up (might be one of your last chances to!) and any worries no matter how small just go to your gp!
And i read that link as well from the tamba site.. it is v useful.. wish i saw that before not after!

Hi marie, congratulations! Have you any other children or is this a first? I didn't have any bleeding with my pregnancies but lots of people do with lots of reasons. You tend to be looked after a bit more closely with twin pregnancies so I'm sure anything of concern will be spotted early on. If you feel well, carry on as normal, if you feel yucky, rest and see how you feel after.

Some of us mums of twins (and triplets!) meet regularly on the "d'you ever wonder..." thread on here. I'll pop a link in there for you in case anyone has some advice.....

Welcome to our world lol!

Seriously..... Congratulations Do come and "see" us on the D'ya ever wonder threads. Mumsnet is a fab place and I confess that I have found it more helpful than the twin websites. Look forward to chatting with you.

Hi Marie, congratulations on your twin pregnancy! I am now 30+ weeks pregnant with twins and have a 22 month old ds!
No idea about the cramping and bleeding (could it be due to implantation?) but just take it easy and stay as stress free as possible. Make sure the doctors and midwives you see are experienced with twin pregnancies so you get the best advice possible. Good luck and looking forward to you joining us on the 'D'ya ever wonder....' thread.

Hi There,
I'm new too!
My twins are now 10 weeks old...
I had lots of worries through my pregnancy.
I bled 3 times - at 12, 14 and 16 weeks. The last time was the heaviest and had me in a real panic. I was told that the thing to look for is whether it is fresh "red" blood or brown/reddy brown blood. They usually say that the latter is "old" blood & nothing to worry about but I also know of people who've bled lots of red stuff & still been perfectly fine. I also heard it's more common with twins (my cousin also had this with her twins). I also had period-like cramps all the way through. It got to be so regular that I actually worried when they stopped! I understand this is caused by your uterus expanding with the pregnancy. Anyway, with all of this it's best to see the doc (sounds like you have) & to remember there is no such thing as "normal". Even if something happens that you've never heard of anyone else experiencing ever before, it still doesn't mean there's a problem. Good luck with it all - and get plenty of sleep. Believe me, you are gonna need it!
Em
x

Poor you

I was quite small with my twins till fifteen weeks then I BALLOONED! I threw up all the way through, so my arms and legs got more and more stick-like and my middle just got massive.

So if you're already big, that probably means you're going to grow at a steady rate rather than ballooning like I kept doing. This means LESS STRETCHMARKS!

Did you say it was your first? Some people also just retain loads of water, so you may be one of those. My mum said she looked noticably pregnant after just a few weeks, and she didn't even have twins.

Hope you're feeling okay. Has the bleeding stopped?

Hi Marie
Congratulations - I had bleeding at 11 weeks with my twins and was told that it was very common. It can be so worrying but like I agree that as an expectant twin mum you will be monitored much more closely. My twins are now 6 months old and were good birth weights. You should relax whenever you can although I was glad to go to work as it stopped me worrying as much.
Good Luck and enjoy
