Periods after mmc - is this normal, or an infection?

H all, has anyone got experience of this?

I had a mmc at the beginning of Feb. Mc'd naturally and then had a scan which showed everything gone. had a scan a week later which also showed this (although they said lining was thick).

Had first period around 5 weeks later which was surprisingly light. Then had another period 30 days after that (possibly following a chemical pg). This was really heavy and lasted 10 days. Now around 12days later (cd22) I have got ANOTHER period! I am wondering what is happening. this also seems heavy and is quite painful. I phoned EPU during the other 10 day period as there were clots etc and they said that there was not likely to be any retained products.

But now I am wondering if I have an infection, or if this is just my hormones playing havoc and I just have to wait for my body to sort things out (very frustrating as I want to ttc again.

Sorry for such a long post.

Afaik, an infection is normally accompanied by high temperature and foul smelling discharge.

Could just be your body getting back to normal and the stress of the last week will not have helped either.

Sorry that you are going through this, it is horrible.

Hi Polyanna, sorry for your loss x I had a mmc at the end of Jan and like you my first period returned around 5 weeks later but was only light and was really only one day, my next was back to my normal cycle of 26 days and was for about two days, wasn't heavy but had really really bad pains with it (i dont normally suffer period pains at all) and had to take pain killers to help ease it. just started my third so waiting to see what this brings with it!! iam guessing it is still my body getting back to normal, i used to have really sore boobs the week leading up to AF and since my mmc that has not happened at all. i know some would say that was a good thing but when that is a normal thing to happen to me and its not there now it makes me think is my body back to normal or not!

As MmeLindt states with infection there would be a high temperature, thats what i was told to look out for.

If you are worried then i would see your gp to get checked out.

good luck for the future and take care x

Sorry about your mmc

I had similar with my periods after a mmc - I got my first period 5 weeks later, it was quite light and normal. Then 28 days later I got my second period and it was incredibly painful and heavy - it was as painful as the miscarriage had been, and being so heavy, felt just like I was going through it all again!!

I think it can be confusing, and if it was a really early miscarriage then perhaps your hormones are all a bit messed up and so you got your next period really early. Maybe worth going to your GP to check if you've got an infection, although you're probably ok if you don't feel ill/don't have a temp?

I know it's really frustrating when you just want to ttc again, really sympathise with that, it's a hard (and confusing) time.

xx

thanks all. I actually phoned the gynae ward that I was on for advice today after a bit of a blood bath, and they said the same - if I didn't have a temp/foul smelling discharge/pain on peeing, then I am unlikely to have an infection, and this is just my body getting back to normal. It is frustrating though as I foolishly thought I would be pg again straigh away.
