Hi i have just had an eprc on weds this week it is now sunday and still bleeing alittle. I went for a scan at 11 weeks and was told i was only measuring 5 to 6 weeks, and there was no heart beat. i opted to have the eprc as i just wanted it over and done with. I am 40 years old and already have 2 girls, i am with a new partner and this was exciting for us, it was like given a last chance as we both love each other very much. I had a very very small bleed at 6 weeks a wipe and that was it ( sorry for the information). My tummy was getting bigger and my boobs were really sore right upto having the eprc. Does anyone know how long i will bleed for after this op and should i try again, i read so many people saying they get pregnant straight away and alot of them miscarry again, i really dont want this to happen but i just want to feel pregnant again, i feel so empty. please help anyone, good or bad advise i will listen to all. thanks

Hi Sharon,

I'm very sorry for your loss.

I had ERPC in August and bled lightly for about two weeks. I was keen to try again but I would advise that if you do plan to try again to ensure that you get a
-ve HPT first. I had residual hormones in my system due to some leftover tissue and took a number of weeks after ERPC to stop testing +ve.
I think it's possible for people to believe they are pregnant again when in fact they are still testing +ve from miscarried pregnancy.

I'm not sure if there are stats to say if you're more likely to miscarry straight away again. I think the medical folk prefer you to wait for a period to enable them to date correctly.

I'm sure you'll come to a decision that's right for you and there's every possibility that your next pregnancy will be successful.

Good luck and sorry again that you're going through this.

Hi sharon

Really sorry for what you have been through. My story is pretty much like yours. I had my ERPc on Thursday after waiting 3 weeks for a natural loss. I haven't had much bleeding but I have had a little every day since. I have had some pretty sharp momentary pains but doc said it was normal.

He said that I should wait to hav 2 periods before TTC again as there is a risk of MC again if I get preg straight away. The reason is because the uterus lining is thin because of the ERPC.

xxx

Hi
Sorry to hear about your loss.
I had an erpc on the 11th of November ,so nearly two weeks ago. I am still bleeding and have passed some clots aswell. I saw my GP the other day who said this is normal. They don't always get everything out so it is your body passing what is left. My GP told me to wait until after xmas (assuming I would have a period before the) before trying again. He said this was best just to make sure everything has come out. However I saw another DR at the same surgery on friday who said you can try whenever you feel ready but it is easier to date your next pregnancy if you wait until after a period. A lot of Doctors seem to say this but there is also quite a few that say to wait for a while to make sure your body has got back to normal and can therefor carry the next pregnancy better.
I read mintchocaddicts note about testing -ve HPT first. I don't know what this is. Is it a blood test? Is it offered to anybody who has had a miscarriage? Or is a preg test?
Anyone?
I know how you feel Sharon about that empty feeling. I have 6 year old twins and I had such a good pregnancy and they were born at 38+ weeks. Never thought that my next pregnancy wouldn't be good. Like you I found out at my 13 week scan and the baby had died around 7-8 weeks. So sad. Wish you luck for your next one.

hi Jenny sorry to hear of your loss too and wish u loads of luck for the future. i think the -ve hpt, that means negative home pregnancy test. I dont dare do one yet, i'll just wait for the bleeding to stop as i was told 7 to 10 days but obviously you have been bleeding longer. i hope it stops soon. I get confused when some people say to wait for first period, yet some say you are most fertile after mc, and they are like 20 weeks pregnant now!. I suppose i'll just wait n see what happens. x

I don't think anyone knows exactly the right answer for when to try again. Some people say you are more at risk soon after miscarriage but then like you said there is people that say you are more fertile then and get pregnant straight away and have healthy pregnancies. I am going to wait until after my first period( if the bleeding after the erpc ever stops) and hpe for the best.

I was told not to shower or bath for the first 48 hours by DR at hospital. But then she said it was ok to shower if i had someone near by incase of falling over after anaestethic. Didn't mention infection risk. I had a bath on the the second day after erpc
because i thought it maight help with the pain and I've had a few baths since then. But I do remember reading somewhere the other day that you shouldn't bath for a while. Maybe it said to wait until bleeding has stopped? Can't remember. I'm just so worried anyway about infection as I'm still bleeding has passed some clots so cleary still something left inside me.

Just found the leaflet I got from hospital and it only says "have someone with you when bathing/showering for the first 24 hours" Doesn't mention anything about risk of infection when bathing.

Just checked on internet, a lady who discharges people after abortion said you should not have a bath, go swimming or hot tub for at least 2 weeks after operation to avoid infection, think i'll wait now.

I wasn't told anything about not showering/bathing. I had a shower 24 hours after erpc and every day since. I kept door unlocked in case I blacked out. I did black out twice morning after erpc but I rckon that was from the anesthetic.

Hi

I am so sorry for your losses.

When I had my ERPC I bled lightly for about 10 days - 2 weeks. I wasn't advised not to bathe or shower and had a bath about 24 hours later as I found it relaxing and comforting. I was also advised to wait to TTC until I had another normal cycle but only because it would make dating conception easier if we were lucky enough to conceive.

I wish you a speedy recovery and a happier outcome in the future.

Boo x
