Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Complications with EPRC- tell me some positive stories!

So I've had a bit of a mare with my first ever pregnancy, at the age of 33. I was half expecting a miscarriage tbh as they are so common with first pregnancies, and most of my friends have had at least one on their road to having a family.

To cut a long story short, I had an early scan on Thursday due to spotting at 9+6 and they found no heartbeat and growth had stopped around 7 weeks. I was obviously upset, but pragmatic about it- decided on surgical management as it seemed to offer better closure for me, and it would all be over quickly.

I came into hospital this morning ( still here!), went into surgery and came round in recovery to find I'd had a laparoscopy in addition to the ERPC. Fortunately my DH has been with me all day; he's a GP so was able to fill me in a bit on what might have happened.

The surgeon didn't come round until this afternoon, when he (somewhat sheepishly) explained that they'd perforated my uterus during the procedure and had to do a laparoscopic repair. I was glad it wasn't because of something 'sinister' (like finding a growth or something) but feel crap that the supposed 1 in 100 risk of damage has crystallised for me. I can tell DH thinks it's pretty poor too, but there's no point being annoyed about it at this point, since they seem to have repaired it ok and have given IV antibiotics to prevent infection. I think there was quite a lot of bleeding so my BP has been low all afternoon, and I'm only just about stopped feeling sleepy and shivery.

Obviously the biggest thing I'm worried about it the effect on any future pregnancy- the doctors here said it should heal well (will have a scan next week to check on things) and will have no long term effects, but it'd make me feel better if someone could give me a real life positive story!

Feel like I've had all the bad luck in one go, so hoping that next time will be better. Right now just looking forward to getting home and having a fuss from our cats.

Sorry, just to clarify- I was of course told that this was a risk, but in the words of the registrar who consented me, "I've never seen it happen!"

Hello, very sorry for your loss. I had erpc on Friday, and the doctor that did the consent said the same, so it sounds like you were very unlucky. No useful advice I'm afraid on future pregnancy, but I'm sure someone will be along soon who has.
