I saw your post & didn't want it to go un answered -
everyne on this thread has encountered a m/c. so we know how it is. plently of different experiences. Have a read of the how are you feeling after a MC thread - it really really helped me to know i wasn't the only one & ALL the things I was going through emotionally & physically had happened to others.

i wish you all the best - i found great comfort here,

so you're less than five weeks pregnant?? it's not going to be a big miscarriage. it's most likely going to be very little different to a normal period. in the old days, before accurate home pregnancy tests, you most likely would never have known you were pregnant in the first place.
please don't imagine it will be very dramatic, physically speaking. i know what a shock it can be emotionally, though, so i don't mean to sound as if it's no big deal.

My hormone levels keep rising, but slowly. I'm 5 weeks pregnant now. Its just all very stressful the not knowing if it us a mc or a ectopic or a viable pregnancy.

Hi
I had my bloods done and they were rising really slowly and they told me that it is likely to be a miscarriage & that pregnancy is not viable. Scan today confirmed that.

Good luck!

xkatyx so sorry. This happened to me a year ago. Has the hospital said anything about how they'll manage it if you don't mc naturally?

xkatyx · 15/05/2011 12:38

They have basically said don't give up hope just yet, and I'm back Thursday for a scan and repeat blood tests.
My levels are going up but bit doubling .. But not far off.

They have basically said wait and see etc.

May I ask what happend to you hairylights?

Hi katy. In my first pregnancy I had very low HCG (first test was 60 - highest over several weeks was about 280). They never ever saw the pregnancy on a scan because it was so small, and very clearly failing. With me it went on for about six weeks as I had bled and they were waiting to see if it would resolve naturally - but it didn't, so in the end I had methotrexate to dissolve it. They called it a 'pregnancy of unknown location'.

I have also had another pregnancy which ended up in MMC, both of which had rising Hcg i the thousanss, but not doubling, but I would add I am forty three, so likely to be more prone to poor egg quality.

My third MMC was detected by scan at ten weeks, HCG had appeared normal.

If you want to read some positive stories about slow growing hcg, then read the stories on misdiagnosed miscarriage website, some women with lower rises than you have had going onto have normal pregnancies.

Obviously there is the possibility of sadly losing a pregnancy and slow-rising hcg can indicate this, however it does not say it is definitely going to happen, so try to just think that today you are pregnant and don't worry about tomorrow yet, just try to take one day at a time. It is not easy I know, but do try not to worry about it.

Good luck xkatyx. FX it's just a bit slow to start going. Are you saying your hcg doubled from Monday to Friday - 165 to 330? That might be all right. When I was researching it I made a note of this quote: "In 80-90% of normal pregnancies, hCG levels will double every 48-72 hours" - that implies that in 10-20% of normal pregnancies, they DON'T.

Did they test progesterone level as well as hcg? That might give you more of a clue. In my case they said the hcg was a bit on the low side but the low progesterone meant that the pregnancy was definitely unviable. If you're scarcely 5 weeks then it's too soon for a scan to be conclusive, I think. If you're having another blood test, ask them to test progesterone too.

Hello,

Thank you for your post, my progesterone level was 70 I think then 77 the 64 .. I was told they are always up and down but asking as they ate above 20 not to worry about those levels.

Yes Monday they were 164, wed 219, Friday 330.

Thank you for replying it really couldn't of come at a better time. I feel really low today.

Hi sorry you are going through this, I had a miscarriage at 8.4 weeks so know what you are oing through. Can I ask what lead you to have your hcg tested in the first place? I'm just asking as I am pg again and wondered if this is something you can just ask for.

Hello,

It was because I had a dodgy period the month before so they wanted to scan me to check my dates ect. So when they didn't see anything as I was 4 weeks they done a hcg levels to check all was sane stage. But it has all backfired in a way .. But same time wouldn't of wanted to carry on as if things are normal and are not.
I'm sorry u also been through a awful time, maybe ask your doctor for tests???? But I warn you they are so stressful

Xx

Try not to worry - I know that's impossible but I have to say it! Your progesterone level sounds great and you haven't got cramps or bleeding, have you? I'm feeling really confident that everything's going to be fine for you.

N.B. It's normal to have some cramps/pains as the uterus expands, but for me that felt a bit different from the cramps I got when I started to miscarry, which were like period pain cramps.

Best of luck for tomorrow.

I'm surprised they scanned you at four weeks as they really can't see much at that stage.

Report
xkatyx · 17/05/2011 19:58

I think they just wanted to make sure I wasn't further along because if the odd period I had the month before.
But yeah they didnt see anything which worried the hell out of me.

But getting scanned tomorrow I'm so scared that it's goin to be bad news I'm really trying to prepare myself for it but I really struggle in coping with bad news like anyone I guess

Oh god know sleep for me tonight, I just hope I get finally answers Tom and it doesn't continue

Best of luck.

Six weeks is still very early to see much. This time I won't have a scan til 7 or 8 weeks because then they can see if it's viable or definitely not.

I do hope they can put your mind at ease.
