When meeting up take sensible precautions. Meet in a public place and let others know where you are going. You can also meet mums on your local site here.

Would anyone like a feminist meet-up?

Following on from this thread (not suggesting you wouldn't be welcome if you weren't on it!): www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/2122564-MNHQ-transphobia-guidelines-part-2?

I'd love to meet some of you and I get the impression some of you would like to meet up too, so how about it? And if this is a good idea, where works?

<falls over own feet in ungainly enthusiasm>

Uh, yeah.

grin

Can I come and lurk and be impressed by you all like I do on here? grin

That's my plan, doctor. smile

TheXxed Thu 03-Jul-14 12:23:54

Longtime lurker, I will watch you guys from a few tables away.

caramelwaffle Thu 03-Jul-14 12:26:15

That'd be nice.

I'd be up for that.

Awesome. smile

So whereabouts/whenabouts works for people?

I'm in Oxford, so can get to London or Birmingham with relative ease; further north is a bit of a pain but I'm flexible.

QueenStromba Thu 03-Jul-14 12:33:00

I'll come if it's in London.

I can get to London or midlands with relative ease too.

TheXxed Thu 03-Jul-14 12:33:06

I'm in London

It's funny, I generally don't classify myself as a feminist but it seems like these threads might finally politicise me.

I haven't posted at all on FWR but I read a few threads and I've been transfixed by the transphobia discussions. (my name is Crew & I'm a huge lurker)

I would be another who is interested in a meet-up, because I'm energised by the discussion, but can't honestly say what I could add to the discussion.

I could travel between Birmingham and London (in Cardiff).

Ooh, well come along then!

TunipTheUnconquerable Thu 03-Jul-14 13:04:10

I would absolutely love to come.

And would love to meet lurkers as much as the people whose names I recognise.

Much as I'd like it to happen in York, I can get to London occasionally.

I was thinking through all the recent threads that I'd really like to meet up irl with the MN feminists. The next few months are really really busy for me though, and I also don't live anywhere near London, so I don't expect I'll be able to do a meet up easily any time soon. But if you could keep me posted on what date you agree, I will keep it in mind and if things change I'll see if I can make it.

Oh yes yes yes! I would love to have actual feminist conversation with actual feminists face to face over a pint rather than over 'tinterweb. London best for me. And after 3 October.

Lovecat Thu 03-Jul-14 15:25:39

I would love to - however I would probably just lurk and listen in fear of exposing my extreme ignorance (although I'd stand my round wink) London or North West is good for me.

Ooh, this all sounds good. smile

Sorry to hear you're busy, fair.

I'd kinda like to see people before October, so maybe we really need two meet-ups, an early and a late one? Or am I hopelessly ignorant and are the next two months completely out for everyone because of school holidays?

unweavedrainbow Thu 03-Jul-14 16:16:10

me, although i lurk. i'm in southampton, so can get to london with relative ease smile

SconeRhymesWithGone Thu 03-Jul-14 16:18:25

Oh, I wish! But I'm in Florida. I had two long holidays in the UK in the last three years so travel budget is exhausted. Maybe in 2016? Or y'all could come to Florida? smile

Scarletohello Thu 03-Jul-14 16:18:41

That would be so interesting! I'm near Birmingham but could make London. Never been to a MN meet up, erm, what actually happens at them...?

ballsballsballs Thu 03-Jul-14 16:22:24

I'd love to :-) I'm near London.

Oh, bollocks, I'd have loved to meet you, scone. 2016 would be nice, though.

scarlet - erm, I dunno really, the few I've been to we mostly sat in a pub with a few glasses of wine and had a good natter. It's just nice to put names to faces really.

Of course, it is possible we will instead manage to debate the future of modern feminism with such grace and style the entire world will be set to rights, but my money's on the glasses of wine and the natter. grin

I've never been to a meet up either. I did almost make one but had a disaster at the last moment. I have met a mumsnetter though. That seemed to go OK wink

Shall we sort out some way of working out the finer details of location, date etc without posting them on a public forum? I noticed that a closed FB group seemed to work well for the one I almost went to, but I know not everyone is or wants to be on FB...

Fair point, that would be extremely sensible!

I apologise for the MNer you met - my memory is she was exhausted from conferences and you nobly scooped her up and deposited her where she needed to be with a nice chat in the middle smile

But yes, if people are up for FB I'll set up a group, and PM me for the name. If you're not on FB I'll just do it by PM, but obviously it is rather easier to do the FB group for most people because it saves sending a zillion messages.

Lottapianos Thu 03-Jul-14 16:33:15

Sounds like a great idea. I'm in London too. And I'm on FB so that would work for me.
