Mumsnet

When organising a Mumsnet meet up you should take the same basic precautions you would when meeting anyone from the internet - make sure you meet in a public place and that others know where you are going. You can also meet up with other mums on your Mumsnet Local page. Find your Local page here.

Scottish Christmas Meet-up: Any takers?

The Scottish MNers are not always the most prolific at organising meet-ups, but we do usually manage to do so at Christmas.

In the absence of the normal suckers suspects who put their heads above the paprapet and volunteer to organise it, I thought I'd see if there was any interest smile

We've normally had it in Edinburgh - us Weegies seem happy to start the celebarations early on the train over wink - but I'm open to suggestions.

A very good idea, but I'm not central belt so no can do.

Wish you all the best for organising it though.

I am! I had a nice time last year, it was fab to put some faces to names!
I'm particularly free on the 12th December, as both dcs are away on sleepovers and dh is off to a fortieth so please can we have it then so I don't have to be all sad and home-alone
The place we went last year was lovely, but I have no idea what it was called confused

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Me please!
The 12th is good for me too.
I liked the venue we used last time.

WhollyGhost Tue 08-Nov-11 12:25:03

Me too! and this time, Prettybird, I'll also bring treats for the train journey grin

If the treats are of the same quality as last time, I would almost consider getting the train over to Glasgow and then back to Edinburgh (I would, of course, bring my contribution - it would just not be perfect tiny spanakopita).

Maybe me, depending on dates. fromgirders the 12th's a Monday. You must be hardcore if you can start the week with a big night out! wink

Is it the 10th, FG? In any case, that Saturday works for me.

WhollyGhost Tue 08-Nov-11 13:16:32

I can't promise to bring treats of the same quality as last time blush

FromGirders Tue 08-Nov-11 13:44:02

I meant the 10th blush

10th works for me. It would be great to meet up with the lovely people from the past few years and maybe see some new faces.

I might manage it. Need to check the old diary when I'm back in work tomorrow. Sounds a nice idea!

I could only do 10th if it was in Glasgow. My DS is in a concert at 7.30, so I could pop by for a drink later. Won't make it to Edi, though.

I'm in the frozen north, but my dsis is near Edinburgh......<<ponders weekend away and starts hyperventilating with excitement at thought>>

prettybird Tue 08-Nov-11 16:16:21

Oooooh - I had nearly given up on this smile .... although I was also going to try the Mumsnet Local boards for Glasgow and Edinburgh.

We went Whighams Wine Cellar last time - this year's menu I'd be happy to go there again - but if anyone who knows Edinburgh has any better suggestions, please speak up.

I'm happy to make the booking and pay the deposit, just as soon as we've firmed up on numbers and venue.

Looks like the 10th is a good date pretends to check non-existent social calendar grin

Seems I have a reputation to uphold - haven't made my spanakopita and mini curry puffs yet for the festive season, but looks like I may have to make extra! smile

FromGirders Tue 08-Nov-11 16:44:12

mmm, yummy menu
<wishes baked potatoes would just hurry up and COOK already!>

Mememememe, but NOT the 10th, nononononono (my work's night out - it is not The Done Thing to not appear hmm).

I can bring goodies, liquid and otherwise, honest I can <<hopes bribery might work>>

If I cannot make it this year, hope you all have a nice evening envy.
Unless there are others who cannot make the 10th <<desperate>>? We could do an Alternative Meet-up :-P

prettybird Tue 08-Nov-11 18:49:01

How about the 3rd? Or the Friday night?

We had alternative meet-ups a few weeks apart in York recently and that worked pretty well.
One could be in Glasgow.

3rd is no good for me, sadly.

WorkInProgress Tue 08-Nov-11 19:29:38

Love to come. Think I can make the 10th but not the 3rd !

trickydickie Tue 08-Nov-11 19:48:48

Would have loved to but have a christmas night out all booked for that night. Sorry, hopefully make it next year.

3rd would work for me.
And the 17th.
And the 25th... oh wait, no, not that one grin.

PamSco Tue 08-Nov-11 23:02:06

There are quite a few Scottish MNers on the Nov ante-natal, we've met up previously. But those of us who haven't popped yet would struggle (well speaking for myself) in early Dec. Any other time though deffo be up for it.

Ooooh - count me in please, prettybird!! And I will sweet-talk dh into picking us up off the last train and dropping you home!
